    摘要： There is provided an image forming apparatus which adopts a distributed control system and increases the error detection accuracy of each control unit. To accomplish this, the image forming apparatus includes a master control unit that controls the overall image forming apparatus, a plurality of sub-master control units that control a plurality of functions for performing image formation, and a plurality of slave control units that control loads for implementing a plurality of functions. The master control unit determines a diagnosis path for performing a diagnosis process for an error using the signal lines and a connection bridge connected to the respective control units. The master control unit performs the diagnosis process for an error in accordance with the determined diagnosis path.

    摘要： In an image forming apparatus which requires the user to manually input sheet medium information, (when a bundle of sheets which include a plurality of types of print media are to be printed, the user must manually input setups of the image forming apparatus for each individual print medium. In manual setups by the user, some setups require user's knowledge about print media. When the user has made wrong setups, a print result cannot be obtained under an appropriate control condition Furthermore, when information about a print medium is sensed by the sensor without manual setups, the information cannot be often precisely detect depending on the type and thickness of the print medium, an environment, and the like, and it is consequently difficult to attain optimal image formation. It is an object of this invention to attain optimal image formation, saving user labor and shortening the print time by using a radio tag attached to the sheet medium. An image forming apparatus which forms an image on a sheet medium, has means for reading information from a information holding means, such as a minuscule radio chip, attached to the sheet medium, and means for manually inputting information of the sheet medium, and controls an image forming condition using either information.

    摘要： An apparatus is provided that can perform. distributed control for a plurality of operation units, without concentrating control in a single device. The apparatus includes a plurality of modules that respectively correspond to a plurality of operation units, each module including a communication device, a functional block setting device and a functional block connected with a corresponding operation unit. The functional block has a register that holds, in an updateable condition, control values relating to various controls of the corresponding operation unit. Each module is triggered by an operation start signal input to a start terminal of the communication device to start an operation for controlling a corresponding operation unit in accordance with each control value held in the register device.

    摘要： In an image formation method of an image formation apparatus for correcting uneven image formation on the basis of vibration property information corresponding to an operation sequence in image formation, vibration property information corresponding to a plurality of operation sequences are stored in a storage device. The uneven image formation is corrected on the basis of vibration property information corresponding to an operation sequence selected from the storage device. Vibration property information generated by driving a movable member is measured when the selected operation sequence is being executed while correcting the uneven image formation. It is determined whether the measured vibration property information is similar to the vibration property information selected from the storage device. The vibration property information stored in the storage device is rewrite-controlled in accordance with the measurement result or the determination result.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus to which a storage unit such as an electronic sorter unit is attached is designed to more reliably prevent output of an image that is prohibited from being copied. An electronic sorter unit attached to the image forming apparatus has an external storage unit for storing image data. It is determined whether an image represented by the image data is a copy-prohibited image. Determination information representing the determination result is stored in the external storage unit in correspondence with the image data. The digital image processing unit permits formation of only an image represented by image data that is permitted by the determination information to be copied. When the electronic sorter unit is detached from the main body of the image forming apparatus, power to the nonvolatile memory is interrupted, and the stored contents volatilize. When the apparatus is started up, the contents of the nonvolatile memory are checked to determine whether the unit is detached. If it is determined that the unit is detached, the nonvolatile storage unit is initialized.
