摘要: The present invention provides a method of modifying a plant phenotype by transforming a plant to alter the level of expression of non-symbiotic plant hemoglobin in the plant, whereby the transformed plant exhibits, under normal oxygen conditions, a plant phenotype that is modified as compared to a non-transformed plant. Plants exhibiting modified phenotypes under normal oxygen conditions also are provided. Methods of modifying the response to a plant hormone in a plant also are provided.

摘要: An automatic medicament injector having a compartment for a dry medicament component and a compartment for a wet medicament component. The two compartments are separated by a seal structure that converts from a sealing condition to a mixing condition when the device is activated. The seal structure includes a wiper that scrapes the interior walls in the dry component compartment to prevent the dry component from accumulating at the seal/glass interface. A tapered insert funnels the mixed medicament components to an attached needle assembly, but can be removed when the device is filled. A filter is provided between the medicament compartments and the needle assembly. A chamber between the filter and the needle allows for better flow through the filter. An actuation assembly drives the seal structure into the mixing condition and forces the mixed medicament through the needle and into the user.

摘要: A blade with an easily and economically maintainable cutting edge for cutting vegetation in a rotary cutting machine such as in a lawnmower or brush cutter is described. A blade assembly is comprised of an elongated blade with replaceable inserts that enhance the cutting and mulching functions of the rotary cutting machine. The replaceable inserts are installed at a skew angle and provide an easily maintainable cutting edge that has geometrically shaped fingers that provide both a chopping and a slicing action that enhances the cutting performance of the blade assembly. Mulching blades re-cut the vegetation severed by the shaped fingers into smaller pieces before the vegetation exits the rotary cutting machine to minimize or eliminate the need to pick up the cut vegetation while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing final cut. Each replaceable insert has a safety connector that prevents the dislodging of the replaceable insert from the blade assembly during operation in the event that fasteners fail during operation. An integral blade is also anticipated that has geometrically shaped fingers installed at a skew angle that provide both a chopping and a slicing action.

摘要: Methods and systems are provided for a universal key that enables a user to have access to any type of secured portal, both physical and electronic, in a wireless, hands-free, distance-independent manner without requiring contact or line of sight access between the key and the secured portal. The universal key is not distance-dependent, and each secured portal can be provided with its own prescribed activation range, if desired. Some portals may be provided with long range activation, such as 50 feet, while other portals may be provided with short range activation of a few feet or less. The type of portal being secured and the range of activation may be selected by the user and is not limited by the universal key. In addition, the universal key will provide access to the secured portals in a hands-free fashion so that the user need not push any buttons or take any other action in order to obtain access to the portal. The user need only carry the universal key somewhere on their person in order to access the portal.

摘要: A method and apparatus to determine an optimum collimator angle of a multi-leaf collimator having an opening and multiple leaf pairs for closing portions of the opening to form a radiation beam arrangement having multiple radiation beam segments. The method and apparatus include application of a cost function to determine a collimator angle which provides for delivery efficiency and target conformity. The user can preferentially either selectively enhance delivery efficiency of the radiation beam arrangement, reducing a number of radiation beam segments and reducing a number of radiation beam monitor units required for delivery of the desired prescription, or selectively enhance conformity of the radiation beam arrangement to a target shape. The optimum collimator angle is then used for delivery of an optimized radiation beam arrangement to a patient by a radiation delivery device.

摘要: A dynamically configurable clamping device for applying a desired electrical current to a tissue membrane includes an input lead electrically connected to the tissue membrane to provide a sensed signal indicative of voltage across the membrane. An input circuit includes an analog-to-digital converter, and is responsive to the sensed signal and provides a digitized signal indicative of the sensed signal. A digital signal processor executes selected program instructions to operate in a selected one of (i) a voltage clamp mode, (ii) a current clamp mode or (iii) a dynamic clamp mode based upon the state of a mode selection signal indicative of the selected operating mode. The digital signal processor provides a digital current command signal indicative of the current to be applied to the tissue membrane. An output circuit receives the digital current command signal, and generates a current signal indicative thereof. An output lead receives and applies the current signal to the tissue membrane. Digital feedback control is advantageous over the traditional systems by providing programmability, capability for dynamic changes of clamping modes, hardware simplification, and integration of multi-channel clamping systems. The digital signal processor in the feedback loop provides programmability in the control algorithm.

摘要: An antenna device is disclosed, which is intended for a portable radio communication device. The communication device includes a signal generating component having a signal output, said output defining a signal generating circuit impedance. The antenna device includes a substantially planar conductor having an associated impedance and preferably extending in a first dimension greater than approximately one-quarter of a predetermined operational wavelength. The antenna device further includes a matching network which is coupled to the signal generating output. The matching network having a substantially planar dielectric substrate and a conductive meander element and a conductive trace element, wherein said matching network transforms the impedance of the signal generating component to approximate the impedance of the planar conductor element.
