Abstract:
A system for non-invasive urinary activity monitoring may include a sticker that attaches to a urine bag. The sticker may include a metal layer shaped as an antenna. A device may cause a network analyzer to send a signal in a direction of the urine bag. The device may detect a shift in a resonant frequency of the antenna. The device may measure, based on the change in resonant frequency, an amount of fluid in the container. The device may measure, based on a change in the resonant peak amplitude, the conductivity of the fluid in the container.
Abstract:
A printed radiation sensor that includes a substrate, an interdigitated electrode, and a conductive polymeric film. The interdigitated electrode including a first electrode with a plurality of first electrode digits and a second electrode with a plurality of second electrode digits. The interdigitated electrode disposed on the substrate. The conductive polymeric film including a blend of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The PEDOT:PSS is configured to provide an electrically conductive medium. The PVA is configured to provide ductility and stability of the printed radiation sensor. Upon radiation exposure, the PVA is further configured to crosslink within a material matrix of the printed radiation sensor militating against the recombination of chain scission by forming a semi-interpenetrating polymer network (SIPN) with the PEDOT:PSS to provide an enhanced and stable impedance reading.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing an implantable device is provided. The method includes laser nano-texturing a titanium surface. The method further includes applying an aqueous silver ion solution to form a silver ion complex on the nano-textured titanium surface. The method also includes reducing, using laser-assisted photocatalytic reduction, the silver ion complex to silver ion particles which are immobilized on the nano-textured titanium surface.
Abstract:
An ozone generation apparatus includes a flexible and porous gas permeable treatment patch configured to be releasably secured to a user's body such that an exterior surface of the treatment patch directly contacts skin on the user's body, and an ozone generating unit fluidically coupled to the treatment patch and configured to provide a flow of ozone through pores in the treatment patch toward and out through the exterior surface of the treatment patch. In certain embodiments, the patch may be used for combination therapies in which both ozone and antibiotics are simultaneously applied to the user's body.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for assessing a microbial characteristic within a growing medium. Such a system assesses one or more microbial characteristics, such as biomass and/or microbial activity, within a growing medium, such as soil. Electrical properties of a microbially degradable material in contact with the growing medium are measured. The measurements are used to determine the microbial characteristic(s) based at least partly on degradation of the microbially degradable material.
Abstract:
A fluorescent oxygen sensing ink includes at least one organic solvent, at least one polymer binder disposed in the organic solvent, and an oxygen-sensitive fluorescent dye disposed in the organic solvent. The oxygen-sensitive fluorescent dye and the at least one polymer can interact to form a moisture-resistant film. The fluorescent oxygen sensing ink can be incorporated into an oxygen sensing wound dressing.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a novel oxygen-generating biodegradable surgical mesh, and to methods of making and using the novel oxygen-generating biodegradable surgical mesh. More specifically, a novel surgical mesh has been developed, wherein the surgical mesh has a flexible basic structure and comprises a plurality of pores, wherein the surgical mesh has a first face and a second opposite face, wherein the surgical mesh is made of a substantially homogeneous material comprising a biodegradable polymeric material and an oxygen-generating material.
