Abstract: Techniques for component protective overmolding include selectively applying a securing coating substantially over one or more elements coupled to a framework, molding a first protective layer over the framework, the one or more elements, and the securing coating, after the securing coating has been selectively applied, and molding a second protective layer over the first protective layer. In one embodiment, the second protective layer is configured to provide a surface configured to receive a pattern and is removable if a defect is yielded during inspection. Further, the securing coating may be a curable material, such as an ultra violet curable material.

Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to electrical and electronic hardware, computer software, wired and wireless network communications, and wearable computing devices for sensing health and wellness-related physiological characteristics. More specifically, disclosed is a physiological sensor using, for example, acoustic signal energy to determine physiological characteristics in one mode, such as a heart rate, the physiological sensor being disposed in a wearable device (or carried device), and generating data communication signals using acoustic signal energy in another mode. The physiological sensor also can be configured to receive data communication signals. In at least one embodiment, an apparatus includes one or more multimodal physiological sensors configured to receive physiological signals in a first mode and at least generate data communication signals in a second mode. A wearable housing includes the multimodal physiological sensors, and a multimodal physiological sensing device is configured to receive a sensor signal and generate data representing a physiological characteristic.

Abstract: Techniques for component protective overmolding include selectively applying a protective material substantially over one or more elements coupled to a framework, forming an inner molding substantially over the framework, the one or more electrical elements coupled to the framework, and the protective material. In some examples, the inner molding is formed after the protective material has been selectively applied, forming an outer molding substantially over the inner molding and the outer molding is configured to protect the framework and to provide a surface configured to receive a pattern. Further, the outer molding may be configured to be removable if a defect is found during an inspection performed after the outer molding is formed.

Abstract: A system and method for communicating electronic messages between a remote device and a messaging server over telephone lines using acoustic coupling. Information is communicated between the remote device and the messaging server using acoustical tones corresponding to the information. The messaging server provides store-and-forward capability for messages received from external sources and which are then forwarded to the remote device. The remote device generates acoustical tones corresponding to information to be transmitted to the messaging server. The acoustical tones are transmitted to the messaging server over a telephone network which is acoustically coupled to the remote device. The messaging server performs processing based on information received from the remote device. The messaging server generates acoustical tones corresponding to information, including messages, to be transmitted to the remote device. These acoustical tones are transmitted by the messaging server over the telephone network and received by the remote device via the acoustic coupling between the remote device and the telephone network.
