摘要: A computer system includes a main memory for storing a large amount of data, a cache memory that can be accessed at a higher speed than the main memory, a memory replacement controller for controlling the replacement of data between the main memory and the cache memory, and a memory controller capable of allocating one or more divided portions of the cache memory to each process unit. The memory replacement controller stores priority information for each process unit, and replaces lines of the cache memory based on a replacement algorithm taking the priority information into consideration, wherein the divided portions of the cache memory are allocated so that the storage area is partially shared between process units, after which the allocated amounts of cache memory are changed automatically.

摘要: A variable length decoding device comprising: a memory for laying out data which is identical to data memorized on a lower-bit side at an optional address on an upper-bit side at an address subsequent to the optional address and memorizing the layed-out data; a buffer register having a bit width at least equal to a bit width of the memory for storing data loaded from the memory; and an address register for storing a value of an address at which the memory is accessed (address value) on an upper-bit side and storing number of data which was referred to in the buffer register on a lower-bit side, characterized in that a data shift operation using the number of the data which was referred to and number of data which is currently referred to is executed to the buffer register so that data to be presently referred to is extracted from the buffer register for the variable length decoding, the number of the data which was referred to on the lower-bit side of the address register is renewed by adding thereto the number of the data which has been currently referred to in response to the extraction of the data from the buffer register, the address value to be stored on the upper-bit side of the address register is maintained when the renewed number of the data which was referred to on the lower-bit side of the address register is not carried up, and the carry-up is used to renew the address value to be a next address value when the renewed number of the data is carried up.

摘要: A field oxide film for element isolation is formed on an SOI substrate having a silicon layer formed on an insulating layer, an active nitride film is wet-etched to reduce its film thickness to a value small enough to allow the edge of the silicon layer to become exposed and ions of a channel stopping impurity are implanted only into the edge of the silicon layer through self-alignment either vertically or at an angle by using the active nitride film as a mask. Through this manufacturing method, a field effect transistor which achieves a small gate length, is free from the adverse effect of a parasitic transistor and thus does not readily manifest a hump, and allows a reduction in the distance between an nMOS and a pMOS provided next to each other is realized.
