摘要: An electronic device includes: at least one electronic chip comprising a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE); and a carrier including a top side connected to the bottom side of the chip by solder bumps. The carrier further includes a second CTE that approximately matches the first CTE, and a plurality of through vias from the bottom side of the carrier to the top side of the carrier layer. Each through via comprising a collar exposed at the top surface of the carrier, a pad exposed at the bottom surface of the carrier, and a post disposed between the collar and the pad. The post extends thorough a volume of space.

摘要: Storage media of a storage system are grouped into one or more groups based upon parameters associated with the storage media. Various parameters may be taken into consideration depending upon the criteria selected for the grouping. At least one grouping criterion is selected, and based on the grouping criterion, one or more parameters are measured. Then, using the measured data, a plurality of storage media are placed into one or more groups. The groups may then be used to form Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) arrays employed in the storage system.

摘要: A system and method for self-servo-writing of multi-slot timing patterns is described. Individual timing marks are replaced with groups of timing mark slots. At each timing mark location, a time measurement is made by detecting a timing mark in one of the slots. Also, extensions to the existing timing marks are written in other slots. The combination of timing measurements at every timing mark and extensions to those timing marks written at every opportunity improves the overall precision of the timing propagation. The improved accuracy of timing mark placement produces a commensurate improvement in the placement of the concomitantly written servo-data. In addition, the alignment accuracy of the written pattern is less sensitive to variations in rotation speed and variations in the shape of written transitions. Moreover, only a single disk revolution is required at each servo radius to write servo data and propagate the timing marks.

摘要: An electronic event recorder for attachment to a vehicle is provided which can broadcast encrypted signature and data, thereby leaving behind an electronic version of a “fingerprint” in the event of an accident or traffic violation. The fingerprint, captured by an external data acquisition system or another vehicle so equipped, provides a history of events related to the vehicle. The event recorder is preferably integrated on a smart card and housed in a tamper proof casing. In a first mode of operation, monitoring stations along the roadways periodically send an interrogation signal, such as when radar detects that the vehicle is speeding. Upon receiving the interrogation signal the smart card transmits the vehicle's signature information to the monitoring station where it is time and date stamped along with the speed of the vehicle. In a second mode of operation, when a sensor detects a sudden or violent acceleration or deceleration, such as occurs during a collision, a smart card mounted in each car will exchange signature information automatically. This is particularly useful when the collision occurs in a parking lot when one of the hit vehicles is typically unattended.

摘要: A signature verification system includes means for obtaining acceleration data and pressure data related to a given signature and means for comparing that data with reference data previously obtained from an identified signer. The correlations between segments of a reference pressure signal and a sample pressure signal are computed. This process involves successively measuring the correlation as the two segments are shifted with respect to each other. The amount of the shifts that produce the maximum correlations between the pressure signal segments is stored in memory, and these shift values are utilized to determine the correlations of respective pairs of segments of the acceleration data. Since the acceleration data is not independently shifted in computing the correlations, substantial processing time is saved. In addition, the overall performance of the signature verification system is improved both in terms of processing time and in error rate as compared to the prior system.

摘要: A data center cooling system is operated in a first mode, and has an indoor portion wherein heat is absorbed from components in the data center by a heat transfer fluid, and an outdoor heat exchanger portion and a geothermal heat exchanger portion. The first mode includes ambient air cooling of the heat transfer fluid in the outdoor heat exchanger portion and/or geothermal cooling of the heat transfer fluid in the geothermal heat exchanger portion. Based on an appropriate metric, a determination is made that a switch should be made from the first mode to a second mode; and, in response, the data center cooling system is switched to the second mode. The second mode is different than the first mode.

摘要: A method is provided to facilitate active control of thermal and fluid dynamic performance of a coolant-cooled cold plate. The method includes: monitoring a variable associated with at least one of the coolant-cooled cold plate or one or more electronic components being cooled by the cold plate; and dynamically varying, based on the monitored variable, a physical configuration of the cold plate. By dynamically varying the physical configuration, the thermal and fluid dynamic performance of the cold plate are adjusted to, for example, optimally cool the one or more electronic components, and at the same time, reduce cooling power consumption used in cooling the electronic component(s). The physical configuration can be adjusted by providing one or more adjustable plates within the coolant-cooled cold plate, the positioning of which may be adjusted based on the monitored variable.
