Abstract: A device receives instructions to update a field that defines a coverage area within a network. The device updates, based on receiving the instructions, the field to include a set of identifiers that are associated with a group of base stations within the coverage area. The device determines that a user equipment (UE), that is connected to the network, qualifies for the expanded data usage permissions based on account information associated with the UE including a particular identifier that allows the UE to utilize the expanded data usage permissions. The device provides, to another device, a request for data usage information that reflects the expanded data usage permissions. The device causes the data usage information to be applied to the UE.

The network device transmits, based on determining the cell type, a notification to a second network device included in the network, where the second network device, based on receiving the notification, determines a policy rule associated with the cell type, and where the second network device transmits the policy rule.

Abstract: A device obtains and stores presence reporting area (PRA) data, including an area identifier, an event start time, and an event end time. The device receives, at a first point in time, an indication that a user device is present in an area identified by the area identifier. The device determines whether the first point in time is at or between the event start time and the event end time, and selectively reports a presence of the user device in the area based on a result of determining whether the first point in time is at or between the event start time and the event end time.

Abstract: A method is provided for enforcing quality of service parameters. A gateway receives a request for data usage from a mobile device. The gateway sends, to a controller, inquiry for allowed bit rate. Upon receiving a first bit rate value, the gateway sends, to a charging system, request for quota. In response to receiving the quota, the gateway provides data to the mobile device based on the first bit rate value. The gateway provides data to the mobile device until the quota is exhausted. Once a data usage threshold is reached, the gateway receives, from the controller, a second bit rate value. In response to receiving the second bit rate value, the gateway provides data to the mobile device based on the second bit rate value, until an activation-time is reached. When the activation-time is reached, the gateway resets the allowed bit rate to the first bit rate value.

Abstract: A system described herein may provide a mechanism for accurately tracking data usage across multiple User Plane Function (“UPF”) devices in a telecommunications network. For example, different types of traffic may be handled by UPFs (e.g., may be dropped or forwarded), and the UPFs may be able to report the dropping of specific types of traffic, without needing to perform deep packet inspection (“DPI”). Header information may be passed from an upstream UPF to a downstream UPF with the traffic, where the header information indicates rules and/or policies that were applied by the upstream UPF. The downstream UPF may identify the rules and/or policies from the upstream UPF, and may use this information when reporting usage to a Session Management Function (“SMF”).

Abstract: A network device enables account-level data speed enforcement over a wireless core network. The network device obtains an account identifier for a user device requesting a session, wherein the account identifier applies to multiple user devices. The network device stores the account identifier associated with a user device identifier for the user device and an access point name (APN) identifier for the session. The network device associates the account identifier with an account aggregate maximum bit rate (AMBR) value and stores, in a memory, an entry including the account identifier, the user device identifier, and the APN identifier. The network device calculates, a per-APN AMBR value for the session, wherein the per-APN AMBR value includes a portion of the account AMBR value, and sends, to a packet data network (PDN) gateway (PGW) device, the per-APN AMBR value for the session requested by the user device.

Abstract: Subscription status notification techniques are provided. A request is received by at least one server from a user equipment (UE) to attach to a wireless packet data communication network. The server determines whether the UE is associated with an enterprise identified by a service provider of the network as a sponsor of a data service through the network, based on an account of the UE stored on the server. Upon determining that the UE is associated with the enterprise, a notification message is sent from the server to the UE, through an information element field within an existing message in a bearer channel of the network. The UE is configured to control access to the network responsive to the subscription status in the notification message. The UE permits access to a sponsored data service associated with the enterprise sponsor regardless of the UE's ability to access non-enterprise associated data services.
