    摘要: The invention refers to a process for producing activated carbon having catalytic activity by carbonization and subsequent activation of carbonaceous organic polymers, wherein carbonaceous organic polymers into which, in the course of their formation, at least one metal atom and/or metal ion has been interpolymerized are subjected to a carbonization and subsequent activation, forming an activated carbon loaded with the metal atom and/or metal ion. This obviates subsequent loading with the metal by costly and inconvenient impregnation after the activated carbon has been produced. By endowing the starting materials with the metal, moreover, a more homogeneous loading is achieved, and that homogeneous throughout all kinds of pores (i.e. macropores, mesopores and micropores), so that catalytic activity is enhanced, and in addition, activation is accelerated.

    摘要: Methods of destroying toxic volatile air-borne toxins are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a piece of formaldehyde laden substrate(wood) such as paneling and furniture is treated with TiO.sub.2 solution to form a thin and translucent veneer on the surface. This layer acts like a membrane preventing outward transport of formaldehyde and other harmful compounds produced by weatherization and natural degradation of the substrate. In a prefered embodiment the photocatalytic destruction of formaldehyde is achieved. Other toxins destroyed include terpenes and other types of toxic volatile organic compounds(VOCs). While the prefered embodiment is applied to wood based supports such as paneling and furniture, the invention has applicability for other surfaces such as caskets and roof shingles. For example, the TiO.sub.2 coating can be used on flexible paper type face masks in order to destroy air-borne toxic compounds such as formaldehyde and the like that are used in medical environments where embalming procedures using toxins such as formaldehyde are used.

    摘要: A respirator arrangement including a protective covering, particularly an antismoke hood, and a respiratory connection which is connected to a chemical that absorbs water vapor and CO.sub.2 and releases oxygen, and whose covering or hood material consists of a coated composite material. The coated composite material includes a support fabric of tear-resistant, heat-resistant, and water vapor repellent fibers formed such that the material for the protective covering and the components carrying the respiratory gas stores or releases the smallest possible amount of water vapor, and is resistant to breakage and tearing while having elasticity and suppleness, and can be processed easily. The composite material has a support fabric 1 of glass fibers 2 that has a silane interlayer 5 as adhesion promoter, to which is applied a PVC coating 3 on the side facing the surroundings, and to which is applied a silicone coating 4 on the surface away from the PVC coating 3.

    摘要: An oxygen generating microencapsulated composition includes an oxygen generating core material and a coating which is water swellable. When exposed to water, the coating ruptures in an exfoliating manner, exposing the core material to water and thereby generating oxygen. The rate of oxygen release from the microcapsule can be controlled by altering wall continuity, thickness, capsule diameter, and coating characteristics. In other embodiments, combustion resistant materials are included in the wall material.
