Abstract:
An apparatus for providing inert gas to a desired location for a welding operation is provided. The apparatus includes a gas feed line and structure for mounting the feed line to extend in a first direction in a pipe. A gas locator tube communicates with the gas feed line to direct inert gas from the gas feed line in a second direction, different from the first direction, towards a pipe joint to be welded. The locator tube is capable of continually directing inert gas in the second direction as the pipe is rotated during a welding operation.
Abstract:
An expandable tool for holding and aligning pipes to be welded together is disclosed. The tool includes an annual array of radially movable gripping elements for engagement with the interior wall of the pipes to be welded. A wedge is mounted for axial movement relative to the gripping elements to effect selective radial outward movement of the gripping elements to align and hold the pipes for welding. The gripping elements are provided with passageways for delivery gas to preselected zones between the gripping elements and the interior wall surfaces of the pipes in the regions to be welded.
Abstract:
A device for transferring pharmaceuticals and the like comprising a panel structure having at least one transfer nozzle projecting through the structure. A ring is located on the nozzle intermediate its ends for securing the nozzle to the panel and a weldment joins the ring to the panel structure. Additionally, there is disclosed a grinding and polishing device for removing the weldment between the transfer nozzle and the panel structure and for polishing it and an area contiguous with the weldment.
Abstract:
Clad pipe having an inner pipe and an outer pipe metallurgically bonded to each other is manufactured by a process comprising the steps of: (a) preparing an inner pipe and an outer pipe made of different metallic materials, the outer pipe having an inner diameter larger than the outer diameter of the inner pipe; (b) forming an Ni-B layer by electroplating or electroless plating on the surface of one of the pipes facing the other pipe when the two pipes are assembled, the Ni-B layer having a thickness of 2-100 .mu.m and consisting essentially, on a weight basis, of B: 0.5%-7%, Fe: 0%-30%, P: 0%-7%, and a balance of Ni and inevitable impurities; (c) assembling the two pipes by inserting the inner pipe into the outer pipe; (d) subjecting the assembled pipes to cold working for reduction in diameter to such a degree that the outer diameter of the inner pipe is reduced by from 0.5% to 10% to form raw clad pipe in which the inner and outer pipes are in contact; and (e) subjecting the raw clad pipe to heat treatment in the temperature range of 1050.degree.-1250.degree. C. for a time sufficient to metallurgically bond the inner and outer pipes by diffusion bonding.
Abstract:
A welded metal container for a sheath 1 or 1A of gas insulated switch gear comprises a trunk pipe 2, 21 and a branch pipes 3, 31, 32 welded to the trunk pipe 2,21 by arc welding A or laser beam welding LB and flanges welded to the each end portion of the trunk pipe 2, 21 and branch pipes 3, 31, 32 by the laser beam welding. After the arc welding A, the ends of trunk pipe 1, 21 and branch pipes 3, 31, 32 are machined precisely and flanges 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4f and 4g are welded to the end portions of the trunk pipe 2, 21 and branch pipes 3, 31, 32.
Abstract:
A boiler wall tube tool for clamping together adjacent ends at a juncture of a boiler wall tube in a boiler wall. The tool includes first and second opposing clamping members, each clamping member including a recess suitable for engaging an exterior surface of a tube and for extending across the juncture of a tube. A pair of slots which are spaced from each other and substantially aligned with the slots on the other clamping member are provided in each clamping member. The slots on the first clamping member include sloped edges terminating at an outer portion thereof. A hook-and-bolt member secures the clamping members around the tube segments. The hook-and-bolt member includes a pair of hook arms for extending through the slots of the clamping members and suitable for passing through a spacing between laterally adjacent boiler tubes. Each end of the hook arms terminates in hooked ends for engaging the sloped edges on the slots of the first clamping member. A bolt passing through threads in the handle engages a front face of the second clamping member and applies force to pull the first clamping member towards the second clamping member.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a welded metal container by first arc welding a branch pipe to a trunk pipe. The arc welding of the pipes together causes both of the pipes to be thermally deformed. The end surfaces of the pipes are then cut by a laser cutting or mechanical cutting process so that the ends of the trunk pipe are in parallel and perpendicular to the end of the branch pipe. Subsequently flanges are laser welded to the ends of the pipes without further thermally deforming the pipes. The metal container made by this process can be used as a sheath for a gas insulated switch gear.
Abstract:
A resistance welding method for a fuel rod is presented in which the gas seal opening is closed with a sealing material of the same composition as the end plug material. The method enable to perform welding stably in a pressurized welding chamber, and the process is amenable to automation. The sealing material body is made of a wire, and is pressed against the conical shaped opening provided on the end plug. The welding method avoids contaminating the weld with undesirable impurities from the electrode material, and the welding operations is designed so that there is no need to reshape the end of the electrode or adjust the gap between the sealing material and the seal opening.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for welding a branch tube to a header tube includes a fixture having a pair of clamps for supporting the fixture on the header tube. A welding head on the fixture includes a clamp to hold the branch tube in place relative to the header tube. The welding head also includes a collet extending into contact with the header tube. The header tube, the collet and the welding head form a limited volume chamber that contains shielding gas in the vicinity of the joint between the branch tube and the header tube. The welding head includes a mechanism for rotating a tungsten welding electrode around the intersection of the branch tube and the header tube to form the welded joint.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming metal tubes is shown in which a metal strip 2' having a brazing wire 1 bonded to an edge portion thereof passes through the apparatus and is formed by a combination of rollers 17, 17', 19, 19' and dies 15, 24 into a shape defining a tube. A frictional wheel 27 bonds together the two edge portions of the shape defining a tube.
