摘要: Cement bonded boards are manufactured by mixing wooden chip material with cement, additives and water and forming this mixture into a mat from which individual sections corresponding to the desired length of the board blanks are then produced. The individual sections are pressed and then hardened by the application of heat which produces initial setting of the cement. The boards are then left for a period of time so that the cement bond can reach its full strength. After this stage the boards are passed through a conditioning channel to achieve a moisture balance between the atmosphere and the board material. Only at this stage are the boards subjected to an edge preparation process in which they are trimmed to the final size. The waste material is at least partly comminuted and return to the beginning of the process where it is once again added to the chip material prior to the mat forming step.

摘要: A fibrous reinforcing element made from oriented polyolefin material for reinforcing a matrix material such as cement has longitudinally varying cross-sections and frayed surface portions from which fibrils extend. The element has cross-sections which vary along its length, a characteristic which combines with the fibrils of the frayed surface portions to facilitate anchoring of the element in the matrix. The anchoring and strength characteristics make the element particularly useful for constructing cement building products or any product produced from a matrix binding agent. The element is in the form of a fiber made from a polyolefin film which is stretched at least fifteen times and then cut by cutting means along lines at least partially transverse to the direction of orientation. In the preferred embodiment a building product formed from a matrix of Portland cement has dispersed therein, a plurality of fibrous reinforcing elements at least a portion of which are the individual polyolefin fibers described in accordance with the invention. By uniquely providing a combination of the inventive fibers with fibers of other types within the cement matrix, improved anchoring and dispersion of the fibers is achieved, while the improved strength characteristics of the elements contributes to a building product of unusually improved strength.

摘要: A process comprising the steps of adding an inorganic foamed aggregate, an inorganic solid aggregate and a reinforcing fiber to cement to prepare a cement mixture, kneading the cement mixture with addition of 3 to 15% by weight of water based on the mixture to obtain a relatively hard kneaded mixture, press-molding the kneaded mixture at pressure of 200 to 600 kg/cm.sup.2, adding water to the molded piece to adjust the water content thereof, preheating the molded piece at a temperature of 40.degree. to 70.degree. C. before curing, spraying to the surface of the heated molded piece an aqueous dispersion prepared from resin and cement-type coloring material and containing inorganic particles 0.1 to 1.5 mm in size, drying the coated piece, applying a colored resin composition to the coating, and curing the resulting piece in an autoclave with pressurized steam, whereby a colored roofing panel or like cement product can be prepared.

摘要: A process and an apparatus for substantially uniformly distributing glass fibers onto a forming bed. The apparatus is mounted above the bed for movement relative thereto along the length of the bed and is receptive of glass fibers for chopping same into desired lengths. A hood structure is downstream of the chopping and comprises three chambers. A first chamber defining a receiving zone in the process receives the chopped glass fibers which are dropped into the hood and a second chamber defining a dispersing zone is in communication with the first chamber and downstream thereof and disperses the glass fibers received from the first chamber to effect a random uniform matrix thereof along the width of the bed. The dispersion is carried out by a turbulence that is created within the chamber. The third chamber defining a distributing zone is disposed downstream of the second chamber and has an adjustable length elongated outlet aperture which extends across a desired width of the bed. The third chamber receives the dispersed glass fibers in the random uniform matrix and substantially isolates the fibers therein from the turbulence in the second chamber for substantially uniformly distributing the glass fibers therein on the desired width of the bed by dropping same through the aperture during relative movement of the apparatus along the length of the bed.

摘要: A succession of rectangular mats, consisting essentially of asbestos fibers or other filamentary material held together by a wet hydraulic binder such as cement, are conveyed by a series of trays through the gap between a pair of horizontal platens of a press. The upper platen carries a die for trimming the edges of a mat to be compacted, with the tray acting as an anvil. The trays are linked near their leading ends with two parallel, endless conveyor chains and have their trailing ends supported by rollers on rails which parallel the upper and lower runs of the chains and which form ramps for guiding these rollers onto the lower level downstream of the press and onto the upper level upstream of the press whereby each tray runs horizontally through the press between a loading and an unloading station.

摘要: In a method and apparatus for producing lightweight constructional plates by casting a mixture of filling materials and a binder into a mold, a cement and water are continuously centrifuged to form a liquid cement binder, and the binder and filling materials are continuously fed to a slowly rotating drum mixer to form the mixture. The mixture is continuously supplied to a mold while the mold is moved at a speed coordinated with a rate of mixture supply thereto to fill the mold progressively to a uniform height, while progressively subjecting only the mixture in the mold to vibration and to leveling to a uniform height. The mixture is supplied to the mold at a rate so coordinated with the rate of mold movement that the hardening reaction of the liquid cement binder just begins when the mixture is subjected to such vibration. As each mold is filled and the mixture therein vibrated, the mold is transported to a curing area and, when the cast mixture has hardened and cured, it is removed from the mold and the mold is returned for refilling. A glass fiber mat, soaked in a liquid cement, is applied to at least the under surface of the cast mixture while the mixture is being cast and before the liquid cement coating of the glass fiber mat has completely solidified. The liquid cement applied to each glass fiber mat preferably has an addition of 20 to 30 percent of natural or synthetic rubber. Each plate may have imbedded therein one or more reinforcing grids, and these reinforcing grids, as well as the glass fiber mat or mats are supplied to the mixture in the mold in a continuous manner while each mold is being filled and its mixture vibrated.
