Abstract:
A system and method of making an open-ended, reinforced, layered belt having a profile layer, a top layer material, and tensile cords fully encapsulated there between. The method includes engaging portion of the profile layer on a rotatable cylindrical mandrel with an engaging roller, disengaging with a take-off roller, and applying and fusing the cords to the profile layer at a desired cord spacing there between. The cord may be fused by melting the profile layer surface with a heated plow and/or with heated cord. The cord is then covered with the top layer material in a lamination step involving heating to melt at least a portion of the top layer and pressing it to fuse it to the reinforced profile layer. Lamination may be done downstream or directly on the mandrel.
Abstract:
A laminating process in which an adhesive composition which is freely flowing or can be rendered freely flowing is discharged from a coating appliance in the form of a substantially continuous or interrupted film, out of a slot nozzle with lateral film boundaries, and is applied and fixed to the surface of at least one web-type substrate, if applicable after being deposited on an advancing transfer substrate, such as a roller, and then transferred to the web-type substrate, and in which the film is guided outward to the substrate via the nozzle slot, clamped or hemmed in at its edges by the film boundary elements, heat is drawn off to the surrounding atmosphere via at least one heat exchange element provided along the film boundary elements.
Abstract:
Multi-layered film consisting of at least an inner layer (3) and an outer layer (2), with an intermediate layer (4) provided in between, whereby at least the inner and the outer layers (2-3) consist of a homopolymer of polypropylene and/or a copolymer of polypropylene, and whereby the intermediate layer (4) contains at least a mixture of a homopolymer of polypropylene and/or a copolymer of polypropylene with a thermoplastic elastomer, characterized in that the film (1) has a haze of 5% or less.
Abstract:
A laminating machine and a method for the production of laminated polyethylene foam sheets is described. The machine comprises a conveyor belt having at least two laminating assemblies disposed in spaced-apart relationship therealong. Each laminating assembly has a hot air diffuser for dispensing an elongated ribbon of hot air across the conveyor belt and a press roll which is spaced behind the hot air diffuse. A sheet laminating slot is defined between the diffuse and the press roll. The top surface of a lower polyethylene foam sheet passing under the laminating assembly and the bottom surface of an upper polyethylene foam sheet entering the laminating slot are heated by the hot air ribbon and juxtaposed and pressed by the press roll whereby to fuse the two polyethylene foam sheets together. A plurality of polyethylene foam sheets can be laminated by having a plurality of laminating assemblies along the conveyor.
Abstract:
A method of continuously manufacturing and curing in-line a sheet of ethylene-propylene diene monomer to form an EPDM roofing membrane. The method includes the steps of forming a continuous sheet material of ethylene-propylene diene monomer and then continuously heating and pressing the sheet material to partially cure the sheet material and remove any voids within the sheet material. The partially cured sheet material is then continuously fed through a curing oven to fully cure the sheet material to form EPDM roofing membrane.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a laminate having a smooth surface includes a planar member having, on at least one side thereof, desired surface roughness characteristics, is forced against the material layer on the substrate such that the material layer attains substantially the same surface roughness characteristics as the one side of the planar member.
Abstract:
A continuously operating material press comprising temperature-controllable and drivable central drum 1 and a tensioned endless steel belt which passes around a major portion of the surface of the central drum and is supported by at least two guide drums and a tensioning drum. An increase in the pressure acting on a strip of material which is guided between the steel belt and the surface of the central drum is achieved by providing an additional pressing means which comprises a roller chain and an additional high-tensile steel belt supported by the chain. Both the roller chain and the additional steel belt are connected to a support structure for the central drum either directly or through the intermediary of tensioning devices.
Abstract:
A thin foil or film is laminated to a substrate with an adhesive layer therebetween thicker than the surface roughness of the substrate, the laminating and drying of the adhesive being effected with the foil contacting a smooth contact surface under a contact pressure, the rate of heat input to dry the adhesive and the pressure on the back of the substrate being controlled to maintain the vapor pressure at the interface between the film and the adhesive above atmospheric and below the contact pressure so that the foil surface of the finished laminate is as smooth as the contact surface.
Abstract:
A printed textile web material and apparatus and method for making same is disclosed wherein web material comprises a heat-transferred printed face and an unprinted face and a paper web is adhesively bonded to the unprinted face. In making the web material, the printing and bonding are done simultaneously. The printed textile web is particularly suited for application to walls.
