A second structure having a depth lower than the depth of the first structure is disposed adjacent to the first structure and between the rails. The present slider design provides a stiff air bearing that has a near-constant flying height over various radii of the moving recording medium. The present slider design also provides exceptional lift-off in a ramp unloading operation.

    摘要: In a magnetic disk device, cost reduction is designed by improving productivity, and increase in recording density and increase in capacity of the device or size reduction are designed with reliability being ensured. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device has a magnetic disk arranged rotatably, a magnetic head slider arranged in a manner of facing a surface of the magnetic disk, and a driving device for moving the magnetic head slider in a radial direction of the surface of the magnetic disk. The magnetic head slider has a silicon slider-substrate-portion and a thin-film head portion which is formed on the slider substrate portion using a thin-film process and forms an air-bearing surface along with the slider substrate portion. The thin-film head portion has recording/reproduction elements facing the surface of the magnetic disk, and a ceramic insulation film has alumina and silicon-based ceramics in order to have a coefficient of linear expansion approximately equal to that of the silicon slider-substrate-portion.

    摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a magnetic disk device capable of improving the shielding function for the magnetic head yet maintaining a form factor. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device comprises a magnetic disk; a magnetic head for recording/reproducing information; a magnetic disk drive mechanism for moving magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disk; a housing including a base and a cover having a nonmagnetic material; and a magnetic shielding member having a magnetic material. The housing has a cut-away portion corresponding to a range in which the magnetic head moves, and the magnetic shielding member is formed in a U-shape including an upper wall portion, a side wall portion and a bottom wall portion. The magnetic shielding member covers the range in which the magnetic head moves, and is disposed in the cut-away portion so as to form substantially the same surface as the surfaces of the upper wall, side wall and bottom wall of the housing.

    摘要: A servo writer is provided, which applies DC magnetization to a zone of a magnetic tape that is in advance subjected to AC erasing and writes a servo signal onto the DC magnetized zone. The servo writer has a DC erasing head and a servo signal writing head. The DC erasing head conducts DC erasing by applying DC magnetization to the magnetic tape which travels past the DC erasing head. The servo signal writing head writes the servo signal onto the magnetic tape downstream relative to the DC erasing head in a direction of traveling of the magnetic tape. In this servo writer, one of the DC erasing head and the servo signal writing head has an integrally formed flange which is able to restrict widthwise misalignment of the magnetic tape.

    摘要: A method of making a tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) film comprises depositing carbon atoms over the surface of an object. The surface of the object is kept exposed to fluorine atoms during the deposition of the carbon atoms. The method allows the fluorine atoms to scatter within the deposited carbon atoms in the tetrahedral amorphous carbon film. The hardness of the tetrahedral amorphous carbon film can be improved in response to an increased content of sp3 carbon bonds included within the tetrahedral amorphous carbon film. In addition, the tetrahedral amorphous carbon film still provides a sufficient repellent performance to water due to the fluorine atoms existing near the exposed surface of the tetrahedral amorphous carbon film.
