Abstract:
An aircraft includes a fuselage including a propulsion system supported within an aft portion. A thrust reverser is mounted proximate to the propulsion system for directing thrust in a direction to slow the aircraft. The thrust reverser directs thrust at an angle relative to a vertical plane to reduce interference on control surfaces and reduce generation of underbody lift.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine includes a core, a first annular portion, a rail, and a second annular portion. The first annular portion is stationary and adapted for partially surrounding an engine core. The first annular portion includes a fore pylon connecting portion, and a fore bi-fi. The rail is coupled to the fore pylon portion and extending in the aft direction from the stationary portion. The second annular portion is arranged aft of the first portion and coupled to the rail. The second annular portion is movable along an engine core centerline between a closed position and at least one open position. The second annular portion comprises an aft bi-fi configured to engage with the fore bi-fi when the gas turbine engine is in the closed position.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine includes a main compressor section having a high pressure compressor with a downstream discharge, and upstream locations. A turbine section has a high pressure turbine. A tap taps air from at least one of the more upstream locations in the main compressor section. The tap passes the tapped air through a heat exchanger and then to a cooling compressor compressing air downstream of the heat exchanger. The cooling compressor delivers compressed air into the turbine section. An accessory gear box drives the cooling compressor. An intercooling system for a gas turbine engine is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine includes, among other things, a fan section including a fan rotor, a gear train defined about an engine axis of rotation, a first nacelle which at least partially surrounds a second nacelle and the fan rotor, the fan section configured to communicate airflow into the first nacelle and the second nacelle, a first turbine, and a second turbine followed by the first turbine. The first turbine is configured to drive the fan rotor through the gear train. A static structure includes a first engine mount location and a second engine mount location.
Abstract:
A compressor intermediate case for a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of intermediate case struts joining the compressor intermediate case to an inner engine structure. Each strut of the plurality of intermediate case struts includes a leading edge. A turning scoop is disposed at the leading edge of each strut of the plurality of intermediate case struts. A plurality of diffusers extends radially outwardly from the compressor intermediate case so that each diffuser of the plurality of diffusers engages with a corresponding turning scoop. A substantially annular structural fire wall extends radially outwardly from the compressor intermediate case. An environmental control system manifold is disposed on the compressor intermediate case. The environmental control system manifold includes an exit port.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine according to the present disclosure includes a first compressor and a first turbine for driving the first compressor. A core section includes a second compressor and a second turbine for driving the second compressor. A third turbine is arranged fluidly downstream of the first turbine and the second turbine and configured to drive a power take-off. A first duct system is arranged fluidly between the low-pressure compressor and the core section. The first duct system is arranged to reverse fluid flow before entry into the core section.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine comprises a core engine housing. A nacelle is positioned radially outwardly of the core engine housing. An outer bypass housing is positioned outwardly of the nacelle. There is at least one accessory to be cooled positioned in a chamber radially between the core engine housing and the nacelle. A manifold delivers cooling air into the chamber, and extends ng circumferentially about a central axis of the core engine. The nacelle has an asymmetric flow cross-section across a circumferential extent.
Abstract:
A nose cone assembly for a gas turbine engine and method of circulating air in a gas turbine engine are disclosed. The nose cone assembly includes a nose cone having an aperture communicating air to an interior space of the nose cone and a discharge member communicating the air out of the nose cone.
Abstract:
An aircraft thermal management system includes a first fluid system containing a first fluid, a fluid loop containing a thermally neutral heat transfer fluid, a second fluid system containing a second fluid, a first heat exchanger configured to transfer heat from the first fluid to the thermally neutral heat transfer fluid, and a second heat exchanger configured to transfer heat from the thermally neutral heat transfer fluid to the second fluid. The fluid loop is configured to provide the thermally neutral heat transfer fluid to the first heat exchanger at a pressure that matches the pressure of the first fluid.
