摘要: A system is provided for providing syringes filled with pharmaceuticals whose components must be stored separately, using a liquid such as water in a pharmaceutical vial, an active ingredient in a protosyringe such as a bottomless vial or a cartridge, and a combiner assembly which enables the content of the pharmaceutical vial to be transferred into the protosyringe and converts it into a ready-to-use syringe on activation. The combined assembly includes a tubular body having recesses at opposite ends for receiving capped ends of the vial and the protosyringe, and a hub and needle assembly between penetrable sheaths or shields which acts on activation of the assembly to enable the transfer and conversion referred to above. Components of the system may also be used to convert protosyringes and pharmaceutical vials containing pharmaceuticals into delivery systems.

摘要: A prefilled syringe system is provided for two component pharmaceuticals, which is a combination of a first subassembly consisting of a capped bottomless pharmaceutical vial containing a first component and closed at its bottom end by a piston which can be connected to a plunger and a second subassembly consisting of a shell containing a second component and closed by a further piston and located in telescopable relationship with the plunger, a cap which can be forced onto the cap of the bottomless vial, and a double ended needle or a functionally equivalent cannula assembly which is caused to pierce both pistons as the assemblies are connected by forcing the cap onto the bottomless vial, thus placing the vials in communication. The shell vial is pressed towards the bottomless vial to express its contents into the latter, and the plunger and shell vial are then removed so that the cap and needle are left connected to the bottomless vial and the plunger may be connected to the piston of the bottomless vial to convert it into a syringe. The shell vial may telescope either over or within the plunger. In the first case, the plunger acts to operate the piston of the shell vial during expression of its contents, whereas in the latter case a separate component is required for this purpose.

摘要: In a fluid catalytic cracking unit utilizing a zeolite cracking catalyst and employing a multiplicity of elongated reaction zones or risers, significant improvements are obtained by introducing a light gas oil to at least one elongated reaction zone and a heavier gas oil to at least one other elongated reaction zone. Optionally, the vaporous effluent from either or both elongated reaction zones may be subjected to further cracking in the dense phase of catalyst in the reactor vessel. Operating conditions within the elongated reaction zones are established to permit the conversion of the heavier gas oil to be 0-30 volume percent lower than the light gas oil. Higher yields of higher octane gasoline are obtained where the unit is operated in the disclosed manner.

摘要: A method for transferring and mixing a pharmaceutical mixture utilizing a by-pass cartridge and a syringe. After mixing the dry component and the diluent in the by-pass cartridge, the mixture can be passed to a syringe which includes a syringe plunger having a fluid passageway therein with a hydrophobic membrane covering the passageway. The mixture can be transferred back and forth between the by-pass cartridge and the syringe through a small bore to achieve mixing, particularly in the case of microspheres held in suspension.

摘要: A syringe is modified to permit gradual administration of its contents with reduced problems due to seizing or stiction of its piston by dividing its piston axially into two parts, a front detached part and rear part which is the only part having provision for attachment to a syringe actuator. The rear part has a passage through which fluid can be gradually introduced from an actuator into a chamber between the parts so as to force the front part forward while the rear part is restrained against rearward movement. The passage may be initially closed by a septum which is penetrated by a cannula on the actuator. If the syringe actuator is a plunger, the syringe can be used conventionally.

摘要: A hybrid DC motor controller is provided for driving a DC motor. A switch is connected in series with the DC motor, and a capacitor is coupled in parallel with the DC motor and the switch. The speed of the DC motor is controlled by the capacitor voltage and the duty cycle of a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal supplied to the switch. The hybrid controller combines a motor speed control loop with a PWM optimization loop. The motor speed control loop generates a PWM signal in response to the speed of the DC motor and conducts that PWM signal to the switch to control the DC motor. The PWM optimization loop includes a controller that is responsive to the PWM signal and an AC voltage signal. This controller compares the PWM signal with a PWM signal setpoint, and drives the PWM signal toward the PWM signal setpoint by adjusting the capacitor voltage in response to the comparison between the PWM signal and the PWM signal setpoint. The speed of the DC motor changes in response to the adjusted capacitor voltage, and the motor speed control loop changes the PWM signal in response to the changed motor speed. These adjustments have the cumulative effect of driving the PWM signal toward the PWM signal setpoint. The controller included in the PWM optimization loop controls a rectifier for selectively supplying a rectified voltage to the capacitor.
