A new method for preparing the composition comprises contacting the siliceous support with a solution of an organosiloxane comprising units of the formula ##STR1## AND OPTIONALLY, UNITS OF THE FORMULA ##STR2## R is --CH.sub.2 COOH or --CH.sub.2 COO.sup.- M.sup.+ ; M.sup.+ is an alkali metal ion, m = 0 or 1, a = 0 or 1, b = 1 or 2, (m.multidot.a) + b is at least 2 and Z is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 6 inclusive carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Adhesion of thermoplastic elastomers, such as unvulcanized styrene-butadiene rubber, to a solid substrate is obtained by using a primer containing a tackifier component, such as hydrogenated rosin or a coumarone-indene resin, and an amino-functional trihydrolyzable silane, partial condensates and hydrochloride salts thereof in which the amino-functionality is in the form of a primary or secondary amine.
Abstract:
A masonry water repellent composition for treating surfaces which is an aqueous solution of a water soluble silane coupling agent and an alkyltrialkoxysilane. The alkyltrialkoxysilane is either an alkyltrialkoxysilanes with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon or a blend of alkyltrialkoxysilanes each with C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl groups on silicon. A treatment method is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Novel ionomeric silane coupling agents are disclosed and their use in bonding a matrix polymer to a mineral substrate is described. The coupling agents comprise amic acid-functional silanes which are partially neutralized with metal cations and are prepared by reacting a mixture of (I) an amine-functional silane, (II) a stoichiometric excess of a dicarboxylic organic acid and (III) an ionic compound containing a metal cation, wherein 10% to 80% of the excess carboxylic acid functionality is neutralized by the metal cations. The coupling agents greatly improve bonding to the matrix polymer in moist environments and are particularly suitable for use in formulating filled injection molding compositions.
Abstract:
Organosilicon quaternary ammonium antimicrobial compounds are described, particularly, ammonium chloride derivatives of multifunctional diamino quaternary salts, and salts containing a combination of amino, ester, and fluoroalkyl, functionality.
Abstract:
Compositions which are particularly useful as coupling agents and primers for polyolefin composites. The compositions comprise fumaric acid and diaminefunctional silanes in mole ratios from 1.0 to 1.4 in nonreactive solvent, particularly water. These compositions are particularly effective in polyethylene composite materials.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to water-borne emulsion adhesives based on polymers or copolymers of vinyl acetate and having uniformly dispersed therein an adhesion promoter consisting essentially of an alkoxysilane and up to about 80% by weight of a plasticizer for the poly(vinyl acetate). The alkoxysilane useful herein may be selected from ##STR1## in which R is independently selected from alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radicals having 1-4 carbon atoms. The modified adhesives have improved bond strength to wood, particularly after exposure to moisture.
Abstract:
A coupling agent composition comprised of the reaction product of (a) about two mole parts of maleic anhydride with (b) about one mole part of a diamine functional silane compound of the general formula ##STR1## where R denotes an alkyl radical, R' denotes an alkyl radical, R" and R'" denote alkylene radicals and x is 0 to 1; and (c) sufficient solvent to solubilize (a) and (b).

Abstract:
An oil and water repellent coating composition is disclosed. The composition comprises a blend of an aminoorganosilane, a perfluorinated organic compound and a resin selected from the group consisting of colloidal inorganic-based siloxane resin, poly (dialkylsiloxane)-monoorgano substituted silsesquioxane block copolymer, acrylic polymer and copolymer, ethylene-vinyl acetate latex and styrene-butadiene latex. The silane and perfluorinated organic, combined, constitute from 0.1% to 10% by weight of the total resin solids in a solution or suspension of the blend. A method of coating a smooth substrate or treating a fabric to render the respective surface oleophobic and hydrophobic is further disclosed.
