    Abstract: Provided herein is a method for pretreating aluminum materials, particularly aluminum wheels, wherein an aluminum material is successively i) cleaned and subsequently rinsed, ii) optionally subjected to alkaline pickling and subsequently rinsed, iii) optionally contacted with an aqueous composition comprising at least one mineral acid, iv) optionally rinsed and v) contacted with an acidic aqueous composition comprising a) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium and hafnium compounds and b) at least one linear terpolymer prepared by controlled radical polymerisation and comprising vinylphosphonic acid monomeric units, hydroxylethyl- and/or hydroxylpropyl-(meth)acrylate monomeric units and (meth)acrylic acid monomeric units, vi) optionally rinsed, vii) optionally contacted with another aqueous composition, viii) optionally rinsed and ix) optionally dried. Further provided herein is a corresponding composition as well as the use of the materials treated according to the method.

    Abstract: The instant invention concerns the use of at least one polymer P obtained by radical copolymerization of a mixture of (i) acrylic acid; (ii) methacrylic acid; and (iii) at least one 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate phosphate for treating a metallic surface intended to be coated by a paint, a varnish or an adhesive. The invention also concerns methods of coatings making use of this polymer P, compositions comprising the polymer P and useful for these methods, and the obtained coated materials.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of water-soluble polymers, which comprises a step (E) of radical polymerization, wherein the following are brought into contact in an aqueous medium (M) in which the synthesised polymer is not soluble: at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer which is soluble in the aqueous medium (M); at least one source of free radicals; and a reactive stabiliser which comprises: a polymer chain (CP) which is soluble in the medium (M), a group (G) providing the radical polymerization of step (E) with a living and controlled nature, such as, for example, a group carrying a thiocarbonylthio —S(C═S)— group.
