Abstract:
Enabling efficient navigation of a playlist of media files stored on a computer-readable medium. Aspects of the invention define a playlist structure to have one or more playlist units. Each playlist unit identifies one or more media files in the playlist and includes metadata for the media files. A consumer electronic device retrieves the playlist units and displays the metadata contained therein to a user to enable navigation of the playlist. Aspects of the invention reduce the memory requirements of the consumer electronic devices and reduce the quantity of disk seek operations needed for playlist navigation.
Abstract:
An apparatus for recording a sequence of video data signals on a record carrier (3) has been proposed. The apparatus comprises input (1) means for receiving video data signals, generating means (100) for generating characteristic point information signals, processing means for processing the characteristic point information signals for a plurality of characteristic points into a sequence of characteristic points information signals (CPI) and writing means (108) for writing the sequence of video data signals and the sequence of characteristic points information signals on the record carrier (3). The characteristic point information signals identify a characteristic point in the sequence of video data signals. Various measures are proposed in relation to the CPI aiming at providing compact way of storing information related to a size of I-pictures.
Abstract:
An optical disc records video objects that are obtained by multiplexing a video stream and an audio stream. The audio stream is an arrangement of a plurality of sets of audio frame data. Each video object unit in a video object is an arrangement of packs that have a different payload. The video stream and audio stream are divided using a predetermined size and the resulting data divisions are arranged into packs. At least one video object unit includes packs where stuffing bytes or a padding packet is arranged with part or all of a set of audio frame data so that the boundary with the next video object unit corresponds to a boundary between a boundary between sets of audio frame data. Since the boundary between video objects is made to match a boundary between sets of audio frame data, partial deletes that are performed with a video object unit as the smallest unit will not result in unnecessary parts of data remaining on the optical disc.
Abstract:
Entry points are managed so they are easy for users to understand. The data recording apparatus has a receiver unit that receives a stream of encoded digital data; an analyzer that detects change in an attribute of the received stream and that outputs the detection information; a controller that generates management information containing the detection information output by the analyzer and time information indicating detection time of the change as a first entry point; a drive that records the management information and the received stream to a data storage medium; and an input unit that defines a second entry point. This second entry point is set relative to the playback path of the stream and is used to access and read from a particular point in the stream. The controller further generates the management information containing the first entry point and the second entry point separately identified.

Abstract:
Provided is an information recording medium which achieves high speed conversion of a signal input from external from MPEG-TS to MPEG-PS complying with DVD standard. An apparatus and a method for recording information to the information recording medium are also provided. A constrained format which enables conversion from a first stream (for example, MPEG transport stream) to a second stream (for example, MPEG program stream ) is provided. The constrained format defines that a first packet (for example, TS packet) is grouped and managed in multiplexing unit. The first one (AF#8) of complete audio frames in the multiplexing unit (402) is the first one of audio frames in a payload of a second packet (for example, PES packet) (413).
Abstract:
The characteristic playback domain of an AV stream is to be reproduced simply and reliably without complicating the management. As marks representing characteristic points of an AV stream, a mark of the type indicating a point and a mark of the type indicating a section (duration) are provided. The mark of the type indicating a point designates a point with a time stamp corresponding to a preset playback timing of the AV stream. The mark of the type indicating a section specifies the domain based on the time stamp of the playback start point of the preset playback domain of the AV stream and on the duration as from the playback start point until the playback end point.
Abstract:
A recordable optical disc stores one or more video objects. A video stream, a first audio stream, and a second audio stream which is used for dubbing are multiplexed into each video object. Also, an optical disc recording apparatus generates the second audio stream by an audio stream generating device, and multiplexes the generated second audio stream into each video object together with the video object and the first audio stream by a multiplexor. The generated video objects are recorded onto the recordable optical disc by a recording device. The optical disc in which such video objects are stored facilitates dubbing.
