    摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for normalizing input soft metric to a channel decoder in a wireless communication system. A demapper generates soft metric using an in-phase component (Xk) and a quadrature component (Yk) of a received modulated symbol (Rk), a channel fading coefficient (gk) and a constant value (c) defined by a modulation order of the received modulated symbol. A normalizer receives the soft metric, computes a normalized log likelihood ratio (LLR) by multiplying the soft metric by a ratio of the constant value to a noise variance value, transforms the normalized LLR into a desired range and a desired number of bits, and outputs an input LLR of the channel decoder.

    摘要: A VSB communication system comprises a VSB transmission system and a VSB reception system. The VSB transmission system multiplexes a coded MPEG data and a coded supplemental data having a null sequence inserted therein, with required multiplexing information included in a field synchronization signal or in a supplemental data according to a number of the supplemental data packets being transmitted. The VSB reception system detects the required multiplexing information from the field synchronization signal or the supplemental data and decodes the multiplexed data by using the null sequence and the detected multiplexing information, as well as demultiplexes the multiplexed data into the MPEG data and the supplemental data.

    摘要: A vestigial sideband (VSB) modulation transmission system and, a method for encoding an input signal in the system are disclosed. According to the present invention, the VSB transmission system includes a convolutional encoder for encoding an input signal, a trellis-coded modulation (TCM) encoder for encoding the convolutionally encoded signal, and a signal mapper mapping the trellis-coded signal to generate a corresponding output signal. Different types of the convolutional encoders are explored, and the experimental results showing the performances of the VSB systems incorporating each type of encoders reveals that a reliable data transmission can be achieved even at a lower input signal to noise ratio when a convolutional encoder is used as an error-correcting encoder in a VSB system.

A transmission system includes an error correction encoder part carrying out an error correction encoding for additional data inputted through a first path, a multiplexer (MUX) part, a control part, a channel coding part carrying out an RS encoding and a TCM encoding, and a VSB transmission part modulating the channel-coded data by a VSB method and outputting the modulated data. A receiver system includes a tuner part receiving and tuning additional data and ATSC data transmitted through a same channel, a TCM decoder decoding and outputting the ATSC data and additional data, a deinterleaver deinterleaving data outputted from the TCM decoder, a demultiplexer demultiplexing along a first path (ATSC) or a second path (additional data) in accordance with a kind of output data of the deinterleaver, a limiter carrying out a hard decision on data outputted by the first path, an ATSC decoder part including a derandomizer, and an additional error correction decoder part decoding additional-error-encoded data on additional data outputted through the second path.
