An emulsion aggregation toner composition is disclosed that includes toner particles with at least one small crystalline molecule, such as a trans-cinnamic diester, at least one amorphous resin, optional waxes, coagulants, pigments, and combinations thereof. In other embodiments, the small crystalline molecule is biodegradable and can be made using raw materials derived from renewable resources. Such small crystalline molecules are also compatible with amorphous binder resins, to provide toner compositions with reduced minimum fusing temperatures without sacrificing electrical performance. Processes for preparing emulsion aggregation toner compositions are also described.

The method can include providing a first monomer, the first monomer including one or more alkoxylated bisphenols and adding at least one second monomer and a catalyst to the first monomer to form a mixture at a first temperature, the second monomer selected from the group consisting of an organic diacid, a dialkyl ester of the organic diacid, and combinations thereof. The method can also include melt condensing the mixture by increasing the temperature from the first temperature to a second temperature over a first amount of time to form one or more polymers, wherein the one or more polymers has an acid value in the range of about 0.1 mg-KOH to about 12 mg-KOH.

The ink carrier comprises a colloidal dispersion of at least one of silica nanoparticles and metal oxide nanoparticles. The ink carrier can also include a low melting wax, and a gelling agent. The ink carrier exhibits a substantially uniform distribution of the nanoparticles so that they are discretely distributed therewithin, and are substantially resistant to the aggregation of the nanoparticles distributed therewithin.

Disclosed is an ink carrier comprising (A) an antioxidant mixture comprising (a) a hindered phenol antioxidant, and (b) a hindered amine antioxidant, (B) a polyalkylene wax, (C) a functional wax, and (D) an ester-terminated amide. The low polarity ink carrier is substantially resistant to phase separation, has excellent thermal stability, resists autocatalytic degradation of the ink composition and a substantial color shift upon standing, and provides enhanced humidity resistance. This ink carrier can be combined with a colorant to produce an ink composition.
