Abstract: A method for the joining of ceramic pieces includes applying a layer of titanium on a first ceramic piece and applying a layer of titanium on a second ceramic piece; applying a layer of nickel on each of the layers of titanium on the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece; applying a layer of nickel phosphorous to each of the layers of nickel on the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece; assembling the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece with the layers of titanium, nickel, and nickel phosphorous therebetween; pressing the layer of nickel phosphorous of the first ceramic piece against the layer of nickel phosphorous of the second ceramic piece; heating the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece to a joining temperature in a vacuum; and cooling the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece. A hermetic seal is formed between the first ceramic piece and the second ceramic piece.

Abstract: A composite tile structure for the rapid laying of multiple tiles on the floor or walls, and includes a surface layer, a substrate layer connected to a bottom of the surface layer, a connecting portion formed to one of two sides of the substrate layer, and an overlapping portion formed to another one of the two sides of the substrate layer. The overlapping portion corresponds in shape to the connecting portion. Multiple of the composite tiles can be assembled with each other by engaging the connecting portion of one tile with the overlapping portion of another composite tile.

Abstract: In devices with flexible displays, multilayer adhesive stacks may be included. A multilayer adhesive may attach a flexible display panel to the display cover layer in an electronic device. Including multiple layers of adhesive in the adhesive stack (as opposed to a single layer) provides more degrees of freedom for the tuning and optimization of the properties of the adhesive stack. The multilayer adhesive stack therefore has better performance than if only a single layer of adhesive is used. The multilayer adhesive stack may include one or more layers of soft adhesive, hard adhesive, hard elastomer, hard polymer, and/or glass to optimize the mechanical and optical performance of the multilayer adhesive stack. Soft adhesive layers may be included to optimize lateral decoupling (e.g., during folding and unfolding) of the adhesive stack. Harder layers may be included to provide rigidity and prevent denting during impact events.

Abstract: A plank is described and a method for manufacturing the plank. The plank can be produced by mixing polyvinyl chloride powder, coarse whiting and light calcium compound powder, stabilizer, polyethylene wax, internal lubricant, plasticizer, and impact modifier together, and stirring this mixture. The mixture is then extruded through an extruder compound to form a plastic composite base material. A surface layer is then tiled onto the plastic composite base material using thermal compression, without the use of intermediate adhesive materials. The surface layer can be embossed when it is combined with the mixture being extruded.

Abstract: Provided is a method for producing a GaN layered substrate, comprising the steps of: subjecting a C-plane sapphire substrate 11 having an off-angle of 0.5° to 5° to a high-temperature nitriding treatment at 800° C. to 1,000° C. to carry out a surface treatment of the C-plane sapphire substrate; carrying out epitaxial growth of GaN on the surface of the surface-treated C-plane sapphire substrate 11 to produce a GaN film carrier having a surface of an N polar face; forming an ion implantation region 13ion by carrying out ion implantation on the GaN film 13; laminating and joining a support substrate 12 with the GaN film-side surface of the ion-implanted GaN film carrier; and separating at the ion-implanted region 13ion in the GaN film 13 to transfer a GaN thin film 13a onto the support substrate 12, to produce a GaN layered substrate 10 having, on the support substrate 12, a GaN thin film 13a having a surface of a Ga polar face. A GaN layered substrate having a good crystallinity and a surface of a Ga face is obtained by a single transfer process.

Abstract: Water-resistant gypsum products may be produced using a novel catalyst that includes calcium aluminate cement and/or calcium sulfoaluminate cement. For example, a water-resistant gypsum panel may have a core comprising: interwoven matrices of calcium sulfate dihydrate crystals and a silicone resin, wherein the interwoven matrices have dispersed throughout them a siloxane polymerization catalyst comprising (a) 55 wt % to 100 wt % calcium aluminate cement and/or calcium aluminate cement and (b) 0 wt % to 45 wt % and magnesium oxide, wherein the weight ratio of the siloxane polymerization catalyst to the calcium sulfate dihydrate is 0.01-5:100. The water-resistant gypsum panel may have an absence of one or more of: Portland cement, limestone, aragonite, calcite, dolomite, and slaked lime.

Abstract: A piston for a heavy duty diesel engine including a composite layer forming at least a portion of a combustion surface is provided. The composite layer has a thickness greater than 500 microns and includes a mixture of components typically used to form brake pads, such as a thermoset resin, an insulating component, strengthening fibers, and an impact toughening additive. According to one example, the thermoset resin is a phenolic resin, the insulating component is a ceramic, the strengthening fibers are graphite, and the impact toughening additive is an aramid pulp of fibrillated chopped synthetic fibers. The composite layer also has a thermal conductivity of 0.8 to 5 W/m·K. The body portion of the piston can include an undercut scroll thread to improve mechanical locking of the composite layer. The piston can also include a ceramic insert between the body portion and the composite layer.
