摘要: A percutaneous tissue track closure assembly (2) includes a semipermeable barrier(26) mounted to the distal end of a tubular barrier carrier (20). The barrier is passed down a tissue track (12) and into a blood vessel (18) where the barrier is expanded to close off the blood vessel opening (14). A syringe device is used to drive a hemostatic flowable material (30) through a delivery tube (34) and into the tissue track. The semipermeable barrier permits blood to flow therethrough but prevents passage of the hemostatic flowable material therethrough. The hemostatic material includes a material which swells upon contact with blood, and a blood clotting agent. After an appropriate period of time, the barrier is collapsed and the barrier carrier and delivery tube are removed from the tissue track.

摘要: A surgical stapler having a supporting frame, including a stationary jaw having an anvil, a movable jaw, a replaceable staple cartridge carried by the movable jaw, a mechanism for approximating the cartridge relative to the anvil, and a mechanism for firing the device so as to crimp the staples against the anvil in a manner to enable the surgeon to substantially simultaneously place one or more rows of surgical staples in organs or tissues. The device includes interrelated, cooperating first and second locking mechanisms for positively preventing refiring if the staple cartridge is spent and for providing a tactile sensation to the surgeon to indicate that a spent staple cartridge is present within the instrument.

摘要: A surgical handle for use with an endoscopic instrument that is insertable into a body cavity insufflated with a gas. The surgical handle includes a housing having a mount that defines an opening for receiving the endoscopic instrument. A first elongated pusher tube is located within the housing and aligned with the mount opening. The pusher tube includes an interior passage that is in fluid communication with the endoscopic instrument. A first actuator moves the pusher tube longitudinally with respect to the mount opening. The interior passage is sized to permit the flow therethrough of insufflation gas escaping from the body cavity up to a predetermined rate, the rate being set at an amount that will not result in deflation of the body cavity.

摘要: A tissue retraction device for use in laparoscopic surgery which includes a plurality of thin, resiliently deformable, pre-stressed blades disposed in a stacked relationship within an outer sleeve. The blades are connected at their inboard ends to a support rod which is telescopically carried within the sleeve. The blades are pre-twisted about a stratigically located pivot point so that once the inboard end of the device is positioned within the peritoneum, the rod can be urged forwardly causing the end portions of the blades to automatically fan out in a manner such that the full width of the blades can be pressed against the tissue.

摘要: A medical apparatus and method of use for implanting a catheter in a patient's body which catheter can be easily positioned, repositioned, and replaced. The apparatus includes an elongate sleeve comprising a wall surrounding an interior passageway extending from a sleeve proximal end to a sleeve distal end. The sleeve is intended to be percutaneously implanted through an incision in the patient's skin to place the sleeve distal end subcutaneously. The sleeve distal end outer surface carries porous material intended to contact the patient's dermis to promote tissue ingrowth. The sleeve passageway is dimensioned to snugly accommodate the outer surface of the catheter while permitting the catheter to slide relative to the sleeve. A split ring locking member is selectively operable in an unlocked state for permitting axial and rotational movement of said catheter relative to said sleeve and operable in a locked state for preventing such relative movement.

摘要: An implantable device including a housing having a stud projecting percutaneously through an incision in the patient's skin. The stud defines a peripheral surface extending longitudinally inwardly from the stud outer end. The longitudinal peripheral surface is used as a substrate to carry a peripheral fibrous layer which extends longitudinally along the stud from its outer end adjacent to the skin incision to below the patient's epidermal and dermal skin layers for promoting laterally directed soft tissue ingrowth. The housing also defines a lateral shoulder surface oriented substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal peripheral surface. The shoulder surface also carries a porous layer conducive to promoting tissue ingrowth. The porous layers on the device allows tissue ingrowth into the interstices of both porous layers to form an enhanced infection resistant barrier while also providing improved device anchoring.

摘要: A folding device for holding and folding an IOL and adapted to allow a surgeon to select between loading the IOL into a removably attached IOL injector and between holding the IOL in a folded state for removal with a separate instrument. The folding device includes a pair of opposing sides, each having an upper surface. A plurality of retaining brackets extend upwardly from the upper surfaces of each side. The brackets are adapted for receiving and removably retaining the IOL injector. A hinge couples the sides together along a fold axis and allows the sides to retain the IOL therebetween. The hinge allows the sides to fold together from a planer position about a first fold direction when using the separate instrument and towards each other about a second fold direction when using the IOL injector. This allows the surgeon to select between attaching the IOL injector to the retaining brackets such that when the sides are folded about the second fold direction, the IOL is released from the sides and loaded into the load chamber and between folding the sides about the first fold direction such that the IOL is folded and maintained in a folded state.
