    Abstract: A control apparatus for an AC motor includes a current sensor and an estimation section. The current sensor detects current flowing through one phase of the motor. The estimation section repeats an estimation process. In the estimation process, d-axis and q-axis current estimation values are calculated based on the presently detected current of the one phase and a previous current estimation value of another phase of the motor, and a present current estimation value of each phase is calculated based on smoothed values of the d-axis and q-axis current estimation values. The estimation section performs the estimation process based on a phase lag element. The phase lag element is a difference between the presently detected current and a previous current estimation value of the one phase or the previously detected current.

    Abstract: A current sensor state determination device determines that an abnormality is caused in a current sensor when a sum of phase currents based on current detection values from each of the current sensors in three phases is greater than a first determination value, and determines that no abnormality is caused in the current sensor when the sum of phase currents is equal to or less than the first determination value. The state determination device determines that the current sensor is normal when it is determined that (i) no abnormality is caused in a preset electric angle range equal to or less than one electric-angle cycle of the rotating electric machine and (ii) a value of an electric current flowing in the rotating electric machine in a rotating coordinates system calculated based on the current detection value is equal to or greater than a second determination value.

    Abstract: A modulation processing unit performs a down-shift process or an up-shift process. In the down-shift process, a neutral-point voltage is shifted towards a low voltage side such that a smallest phase voltage command value is a lower fixed value that is a first lower limit value or a second lower limit value. In the up-shift process, the neutral-point voltage is shifted towards a high voltage side such that a largest phase voltage command value is an upper fixed value that is a first upper limit value or a second upper limit value.     Abstract: A controller for a multiple-phase rotating machine includes power converters for supplying alternating current to winding sets of the rotating machine. A pair of each electrical power converter and a corresponding winding set forms a system. The controller further includes a failure detector for detecting a failure in each system. The failure causes a braking current in the rotating machine. The controller further includes a control section for setting a d-axis current and a q-axis current to drive the power converter in each system. When the failure detector detects the failure in any one of the systems, the control section stops the power converter in the failed system and sets the d-axis current in the normal system in such a manner that an electric current in the failed system is reduced.
