    摘要: An access valve suitable for controlling fluid flow into and out of a chromatography column has relatively movable valve elements preferably represented by a central axially movable probe with a head acting as a spool valve in a barrel. Axial movement of the probe adjusts the valve between a fully open condition, in which both a first conduit extending through the probe and a second conduit defined around the probe are open to the column interior, and a partly open condition in which a sealing component of the probe closes the second conduit. Also, further axial movement of the probe provides a fully closed position in which both conduits are closed. The partly open position is useful for packing chromatography media into its column while the third position is useful for unpacking the same. In the closed condition of the valve, the first and second conduits communicate with one another so that the valve interior can be cleaned while the column is operating.

    摘要: Shipping/display units include a number of vertically stacked product-containing trays supporting upright dividers which maintain separation between the product containers. When in its shipping condition, the bottom-most tray is nestably received within a pallet skirt which rests upon a conventional wooden shipping pallet. Each tray is provided with an individual corner support member which extends between an adjacent pair of vertically separated trays. A corner post extending the entire height of the unit is positioned at each corner of the unit to provide additional structural support during shipping. To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the display the pallet skirt may be reverse folded so as to lie against respective vertical sides of the pallet and is maintained in that position by cooperating locking tongues and slits formed in the pallet skirt side walls. A display insert having a pair of opposed feet and a central tongue element may be positioned on an edge of the uppermost tray/divider assembly so as to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the unit when in its display condition.

    摘要: A landfill site is adapted to collect leachate seeping from landfill. A liner impedes passage of liquids between the landfill and a subjacent stratum. A leachate collection layer formed of drainage material is located between the liner and the landfill. Apertured conduits embedded within the drainage material convey the leachate to a pair of subsurface gallery extending along opposite sides of the site and accessible from the surface. Each collection conduit has a discharge end extending through the gallery sidewall where leachate flows can be inspected and obstructions in the conduit can be removed. A groundwater gallery is constructed below the liner in the subjacent stratum and is also accessible from the surface. Blind-ended slots in the upper surface of the stratum are filled with drainage material. Apertured groundwater collection conduits in the slots convey groundwater into the interior of the gallery. The floor of the site is saddle-shaped to encourage leachate and groundwater flows towards the galleries and flows within the galleries to low-points where sumps are located.

    摘要: An abeyance seal includes a polymer actuation ring, which defines a flexible sealing lip normally spaced from the shaft. When subjected to leakage, this element collapses against the shaft and forms an initial sealing. Secondarily, a metal sealing/anti-extrusion ring provides a second seal during leakage. The polymer ring provides the initial sealing function during leakage at low differential pressure, and once the polymer ring seals to the shaft, increased sealed pressure loads the polymer ring against the metal sealing/anti-extrusion ring causing it to deform so that the metal ring comes into contact with the shaft to form a second seal.

    摘要: A mechanical face seal includes a pair of relatively rotatable seal rings having opposing seal faces which define a sealing region therebetween. The sealing region extends radially between the inside and outside diameters of the seal rings to seal a fluid in a sealing chamber near one diameter thereof. The seal faces are provided with tapered channel macro/micro features which generate hydrodynamic lift during relative rotation of the seal rings. The tapered channel macro/micro feature shows significant improvement in seal performance when compared to an untextured face. Low contact and hence low wear are attributed to a more distributed hydrodynamic load support function. Likewise, low leakage is believed to be the result of optimized cavitation function, and no debris was discovered in the micro-features at the conclusion of any testing.
