摘要: An optical near field probe of high resolution and high efficiency is disclosed. A near field light is generated using a tapered, plane scatterer formed on a substrate surface. The intensity of the near field light is enhanced by making the area of the scatterer smaller than that of a light spot and by selecting the material, shape, and size of the scatterer so as to generate plasmon resonance. An optical near field generator having a high light utilization efficiency can be obtained.

摘要: The present invention provides a device and method for analyzing the characteristics of a biopolymer with excellent mechanical stability, high spatial resolution and sensitivity using a simple device construction. Specifically, the Raman scattered light of a biopolymer is measured and the properties of monomer units forming the biopolymer are analyzed by using a biopolymer property analysis chip (100a) characterized by comprising: a solid substrate (110); at least one nanopore (120) disposed in the solid substrate (110); and one or more electrically conductive thin films (130a, 130b) disposed on the solid substrate (110). The biopolymer property analysis chip (100a) is characterized in that the electrically conductive thin films (130a, 130b) are disposed partially on the solid substrate (110) where the nanopore (120) is formed and a biopolymer which has penetrated into the nanopore (120) is caused to generate Raman scattered light by means of irradiation with external light.

摘要: A head-coupled holder the optical measurement of a living body that securely brings a light irradiation module and a light detection module in close contact with the scalp of a person to be examined, and gives the person no excessive pressure feeling. Each light irradiation module and light detection module includes a contactor having a contact portion that comes in contact with the scalp at a leading end thereof, and exposes a leading end of a light guide to the contact portion to form the light guide, and a package having a lower portion to which the contactor is attached. The contactor is fixed to the lower portion of the package through an elastic body, and the package is fixed to an inner upper wall of the insertion hole with a series structure of the elastic body and the viscoelastic body.

摘要: An optical modulating element has a core layer and first and second cladding layers sandwiching the core layer. The core layer is made of one or semiconductors belonging to a point group 43m or 42m, and has TM.sub.00 and TE.sub.00 propagation modes. The direction of light of said TM.sub.00 and TE.sub.00 propagation modes is parallel to the [110] or [-110] direction of crystal orientation. The change amount of an index of refraction of the core layer caused by the application of an electric field to the core layer in the direction parallel to the [001] direction is different for the two propagation modes.
