摘要: An optical near field probe of high resolution and high efficiency is disclosed. A near field light is generated using a tapered, plane scatterer formed on a substrate surface. The intensity of the near field light is enhanced by making the area of the scatterer smaller than that of a light spot and by selecting the material, shape, and size of the scatterer so as to generate plasmon resonance. An optical near field generator having a high light utilization efficiency can be obtained.

摘要: Optical apparatuses are provided that use near-field light, where high spatial resolution and high sensitivity are made compatible. Highly intense near-field light is generated in a narrow area using localized plasmons that are produced in a metal pattern 106 in a shape that bears anisotropy and is made to irradiate a measured subject. The direction of polarization 104 of incident light 103 is modulated and signal light is subjected to synchronous detection, so that background light is removed and high sensitivity is achieved.

摘要: A response period is determined arbitrarily. A satisfactory detecting ability may not be provided because of an artifact or the like contained in a signal. Therefore, an effective detection method and an effective display method of presenting results of detection must be developed. A series of tasks (stimuli) or a selected measurement signal is used as a reference signal, and a phase difference of any other measurement signal from the reference signal is calculated. The synchronousness of the phase of the measurement signal with the phase of the reference signal is numerically expressed. The thus obtained numerical value is statistically processed in order to numerically express a degree of reliability. Thus, a brain activity or a functional connectivity is visualized.

摘要: Measurement of blood flow rate in a convenient manner has been enabled by using a simple device constitution and a simple signal processing technique. A measurement mechanism having both the function of measuring temperature of the measurement site and the function of applying a thermal load to the measurement site is used, and a process of extracting temperature change associated with the recovery of the surface temperature by the blood flow is conducted from the measurement results obtained by the measurement mechanism.

摘要: A satisfactory averaged signal can be obtained with only a small number of repetitions of measurement in the measurement of responses to a stimulus given to a living body. A low-frequency biological fluctuation is extracted and a stimulus is presented to the living body in synchronism with the phase of the extracted fluctuation.

摘要: A cerebral function measuring apparatus houses a light detector in a package that can be set on the head of the subject examinee with light detection elements, amplifiers, and high voltage power supplies sealed in the package. Each amplifier and each high voltage power supply are united into one and covered with a high polymer material with high dielectric strength, and further enclosed by a metallic shield so as to be insulated. The high voltage power supply consists of a very small coil and an integrated circuit to generate a voltage required to drive the light detection element in the package. A removable and safe module type light detector is thus realized.
