Abstract:
A wireless telecommunication system includes base stations for communicating with terminal devices. One or more base stations support a power boost operating mode in which a base station's available transmission power is concentrated in a subset of its available transmission resources to provide enhanced transmission powers as compared to transmission powers on these transmission resources when the base station is not operating in the power boost mode. A base station establishes an extent to which one or more base stations in the wireless telecommunications system support the power boost operating mode conveys an indication of this to a terminal device. The terminal device receives the indication and uses the corresponding information to control its acquisition of a base station of the wireless telecommunication system, for example by taking account of which base stations support power boosting and/or when power boosting is supported during a cell attach procedure.
Abstract:
A communications device configured to receive data from a mobile communications network including one or more network elements providing a wireless access interface. The wireless access interface provides plural communications resource elements across a host frequency bandwidth, and includes, within the host frequency bandwidth, first communications resource elements within a first frequency bandwidth for allocation preferably to reduced capability devices to receive signals representing data transmitted by a transmitter within the first bandwidth forming a first virtual carrier, the reduced capability devices each having a receiver bandwidth greater than or equal to the first frequency bandwidth but less than the host frequency bandwidth. Communications devices of different capabilities can be allocated communications resources within different frequency ranges according to their capability, to relieve congestion on a center frequency of communications resources in which communications devices with a minimum bandwidth capability must receive communications resources for receiving down link signals.
Abstract:
A method of operating a base station in a wireless telecommunications system. Downlink communications from the base station to terminal devices are made using a plurality of OFDM sub-carriers spanning a system frequency bandwidth. The base station supports communications with a first type of terminal device on a host carrier using OFDM sub-carriers distributed across the system frequency bandwidth and supports communications with a second type of terminal device on a restricted bandwidth carrier using OFDM sub-carriers distributed across a restricted frequency bandwidth which is smaller than and within the system frequency bandwidth. Respective base stations can exchange information regarding their restricted bandwidth carrier transmissions to help them coordinate their respective transmissions with a view to reducing intercell interference.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method providing feedback on channel conditions in a wireless telecommunications system including a base station arranged to communicate with plural terminals device using frequencies spanning a system frequency bandwidth. At least one terminal device is a reduced capability terminal device including a tuneable transceiver configured to receive downlink transmissions from the base station using only a restricted frequency bandwidth which is smaller than and within the system frequency bandwidth. The reduced capability terminal device is configured to communicate information derived from measurements of channel conditions to the base station. The information may include an indication of measured channel conditions for the different frequency locations, or an indication of one or more frequency locations for which the corresponding measurement of channel conditions meet a pre-defined selection criterion. The base station subsequently schedules downlink transmissions for the terminal device in taking account of the information received from the terminal device.

A method of controlling communications within a wireless communications network is provided. The method comprises communicating, with a first infrastructure equipment acting as a donor node connected to a core network, signals representing data by a second infrastructure equipment over a first communications path via one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as relay nodes, the second infrastructure equipment being a child node and one of the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes or the donor node being a parent node, the parent node being connected to the child node via a backhaul communications link and configured to allocate uplink communications resources to the child node.
Abstract:
A method for an infrastructure equipment of a wireless communications network, the method comprising receiving a request to establish a connection from a communications device in a first cell; and in response to receiving the request, selecting a second cell to be a next serving cell for the communications device and transmitting an indication of an identity of the second cell to the communications device.
Abstract:
A method of controlling communications within a wireless communications network is provided. The method comprises receiving, at a first of the infrastructure equipment acting as a donor node connected to a core network part of a wireless communications network, signals representing data from a second of the infrastructure equipment over a first communications path via one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as relay nodes, receiving, at the first infrastructure equipment, assistance information from at least one of the second infrastructure equipment and the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes, and determining, by one of the first infrastructure equipment and the one or more other infrastructure equipment acting as the relay nodes in the case that the assistance information satisfies a trigger condition, that the second infrastructure equipment should communicate with the first infrastructure equipment over a second communications path.
Abstract:
An infrastructure equipment comprising circuitry configured to receive assistance information with a handover request acknowledge message from a target base station, and to deliver the assistance information received from the target base station to an UE with dedicated signalling.
Abstract:
A terminal device is configured to detect a failure in communicating the position assistance information, such as a failure to decrypt or an integrity protection decoding failure, and in response to detecting the failure in communicating the position assistance information to perform a position assistance information failure procedure. In one example embodiment the position assistance information failure procedure includes transmitting a message indicating the failure to the infrastructure equipment. In another example the position assistance information failure procedure includes adapting one or more communications parameters in order to recover the reception of the position assistance information.
Abstract:
A communications device transmits and receives data via a wireless access interface in a mobile communications network. First resource allocation messages are received by communications devices to allocate one or more of plural communications resource elements of a host frequency range of a host carrier. Second resource allocation messages are received by reduced capability devices to allocate one or more of a first section of the communications resources within the first frequency range for preferable allocation to the reduced capability devices of a first virtual carrier, the first resource allocation messages identifying one or more of the communications resource of the host carrier allocated to the communications devices with reference to a first reference frequency and the second resource allocation messages identifying one or more communications resources of the first virtual carrier allocated to the reduced capability devices with reference to a second reference frequency within the first virtual carrier.
