摘要： This invention relates to a carbon black modified by a two step process in which carbon black is initially treated with functional monomers by an electropolymerization process to form a functionalized carbon black having an initial polymer attached to, of grafted to, the carbon black following which (A) at least one diene monomer, or (B) living anionic catalysis prepared polymer, is introduced to the functionalized carbon black to continue the polymerization, starting from a living end of the initially formed polymer, and thereby form an extended diene-based polymer. By the addition of the diene monomer or the live anionic polymer to form the associated extended diene-based polymer, it is contemplated that the modified carbon black is rendered more compatible with diene-based elastomers. Such modified carbon black may be used, for example, as reinforcement for component(s) of various articles of manufacture, including tires. Accordingly, an article of manufacture is provided, such as for example a tire, having at least one component of a rubber composition which contains such modified carbon black.

摘要： The present application relates to a rubber composition containing a precipitated silica filler having first and second aggregates. The first aggregates are from 10 to 90 weight percent of the overall weight of the silica having first and second aggregates. The second aggregates range from 90 to 10 weight percent of the overall weight of the silica having first and second aggregates. The first aggregates consist essentially of particles ranging in size of from 5 to 15 nanometers in diameter. The second aggregates consist essentially of particles ranging in size of from 17 to 30 nanometers in diameter. The pore size distribution of the silica, as measured by mercury porosimetry is monomodal.

摘要： The present invention relates to a polymeric composition which has an excellent combination of properties for use in making seals and gaskets for utilization in appliances, automotive applications, and building applications, such as window glazing gaskets. These polymeric compositions offer excellent dimensional stability, low compression set, outstanding sealing characteristics, low temperature flexibility, heat resistance and ultra-violet light resistance. The present invention more specifically discloses a polymeric composition having excellent characteristics for utilization in manufacturing seals and gaskets including dimensional stability, low compression set and outstanding sealing characteristics, said polymeric composition being comprised of a blend of (A) a thermoplastic resin selected from the group consisting of polypropylene, polyethylene, poly phenylene ether, polystyrene, and styrene containing copolymer resins, (B) an elastomeric polymer selected from the group consisting of block copolymer comprising a first polymeric block that is comprised of repeat units that are derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer and a second block that is comprised of repeat units that are derived from a conjugated diolefin monomer, wherein the repeat units in the second block are hydrogenated, and wherein the repeat units in the second block are elastomeric in nature, and a crosslinked olefinic elastomer, (C) a high molecular weight crosslinked diene elastomer comprised of repeat units that are derived from conjugated diene monomer selected from the group consisting of 1,3-butadiene and isoprene, wherein the high molecular weight diene elastomer has a weight average molecular weight of at least about 200,000, and (D) an oil.

摘要： This invention discloses a process for synthesizing a hairy polymer particle which comprises the steps of (1) polymerizing a vinyl aromatic monomer by emulsion polymerization in an aqueous medium to produce core particles, (2) recovering the core particles from the aqueous medium, (3) dispersing the core particles in an organic solvent, (4) adding an organo-lithium compound to the dried core particles in the organic solvent to produce the hairless core initiator, and (5) utilizing the hairless core initiator to initiate the anionic polymerization of a conjugated diolefin monomer in an organic solvent to produce a solution of the hairy polymer particles. The hairy polymer nanoparticles can then be recovered from the organic solvent. These hairy polymer particles are comprised of (1) a core which is comprised of a polymer of a vinyl aromatic monomer and (2) hairs which are polymer chains of a conjugated diolefin monomer, wherein the hairs are covalently bonded to the core. The core is typically spherical in shape, has a diameter of less than 1000 nm, and is comprised of a crosslinked polymer of a vinyl aromatic monomer. The hairy polymer particles of this invention are useful as fillers in rubber compositions used in making articles of manufacture, such as tires, hoses, power transmission belts, windshield wiper blades, and the like.

摘要： This invention relates to a process of preparation of components and articles of manufacture containing at least one of such components, such as tires, and the resulting prepared components and fabricated articles, by use of directed high frequency energy internally heated silica-rich rubber compositions which contain sulfur curative and a significant content of high softening point polymer, namely a polymer and/or elastomer having a melting point (Tm) and/or high glass transition temperature (Tg) above 0° C., and particularly above 30° C., and which contains a minimal, if any, carbon black reinforcement. Such directed high frequency energy heating is provided, individually, by directed radio frequency (electromagnetic) radiation and/or by directed microwave radiation. Representative examples of such polymers may be, for example, trans 1,4-polybutadiene, 3,4-polyisoprene, natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber, isoprene/butadiene copolymer having a high trans 1,4-polybutadiene component, polystyrene, styrene/butadiene rubber having a high trans 1,4-polybudadiene component and styrene/butadiene rubber having a high styrene content.
