Abstract:
A system for positioning the eye of a patient, relative to a stationary surgical laser unit, includes a chair for moving the patient. An eye stabilizing element is held against the eye, with a tapered receptacle extending outwardly therefrom. Also, an alignment device with a tapered tip is mounted on the surgical laser unit. In operation, the patient is moved to engage the receptacle of the eye stabilizing element with the tip of the alignment device, to thereby align the patient's eye with the surgical laser unit for laser surgery.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for photodisrupting a surface in the stroma of an eye at a substantially constant distance from the anterior surface of the eye. A frame of reference is established for the eye that includes an axis of rotation. Next, the focal point of a laser beam is positioned in the stroma at a radial distance from the axis. At least one laser pulse is delivered to the stromal tissue at the focal point, photodisrupting the tissue there and creating a photodisruption bubble having a diameter “d”. The focal point is then rotated about the axis through an arc length substantially equal to “d” and the photodisruption step is repeated. During rotation, the distance between the focal point and the axis is decreased at a rate substantially equal to the distance “d” per revolution. The method can be used to create a flap for a LASIK type procedure.
Abstract:
A roller skate includes an upper, including a substantially nonrigid upper portion secured to a base. A frame secured to the base carries a plurality of wheels. The substantially nonrigid upper portion is reinforced by a substantially rigid internal heel counter. An ankle support cuff assembly is pivotally secured to the internal heel counter. The ankle support cuff assembly includes a substantially rigid ankle support cuff that is pivotally secured on lateral and medial sides to the internal heel counter. Ankle pad lines the interior of the ankle support cuff. Ankle support cuff is fastened by a selectively securable fastener about the skater's ankle. The ankle support cuff assembly pivots freely in the forward and aft direction relative to the internal heel counter.
Abstract:
A device and method for steering a laser beam to a focal point in target tissue requires generating a laser beam. Diversions of the laser beam from a central beam path are minimized by a sequential arrangement of optical steering components. In order, the beam is first directed to the center of a z-scanning apparatus which will move the focal point in the medium in a z-direction. The beam is then passed to the center of a first galvanometric mirror which introduces focal point movements in the x-direction. A second galvanometric mirror then compensates for the x-direction movement by redirecting the beam to the center of a third galvanometric mirror where focal point movements in the y-direction are introduced.

Abstract:
A method and a system for limiting an engine torque of vehicles to a maximum value. In the method, signals representing wheel torques from wheel sensors at the drive train are acquired, the wheel torques, differentiated according to driving situations which can have a harmful influence on the transmission, differential or torque converter, then being checked for a wheel-torque value which is too high. If too high a value is found, the engine torque is limited or reduced.
Abstract:
A method and a device, respectively, for providing traction control of a motor vehicle in which the slip of the driven wheel of the motor vehicle on the inside of the curve is only regulated when its slip exceeds a predefined slip threshold. The predefined slip threshold is weighted with a weighting factor as a function in dependence on the occurring transverse acceleration, and in this connection, the weighting factor is given by an equation as being inversely proportional to the radius of curve of the road.
Abstract:
A method and a device for controlling a drive unit of a motor vehicle. In this context, in response to a tendency to spin of at least one drive wheel, the torque of the drive unit is reduced. The reduction of the torque, in this context, is limited to a minimum value, which is preferably a function of the prevailing driving situation.
Abstract:
A method and a device for controlling traction in a motor vehicle in which a maximum transmittable driving torque is calculated using operating parameters of the vehicle and its drive unit. One of these parameters is a quantity indicating the turning performance of the vehicle in cornering, such as the yaw or transverse acceleration of the vehicle.
