    摘要: A number of embodiments of cooling systems for marine propulsion units having water cooled internal combustion engines in which the cooling jacket of the engine is at least partially positioned below the level of the water in which the watercraft is operating. The described embodiments all permit draining of the engine cooling jacket when it is not being run. In some embodiments, the drain valve also controls the communication of the coolant from the body of water in which the watercraft is operating with the engine cooling jacket. Various types of pumping arrangements are disclosed for pumping the bilge and automatic valve operation is also disclosed.

    摘要: An assembly for rotatably supporting the propulsion unit of an inboard/outboard marine propulsion system of a watercraft is disclosed. The watercraft includes an engine mounted therein which is drivingly connected to the propulsion unit through a through-hole formed in the transom of the watercraft. The support assembly includes a first bearing arrangement for rotatably supporting the drive from the engine to the propulsion unit and a second, concentrically mounted bearing arrangement for rotatably supporting the propulsion unit relative to the transom. The concentric bearing arrangement permits the propulsion unit to be rotated between above-water and in-water positions while minimizing the length of the propulsion system, thereby conserving space and allowing the propulsion unit to be more compact.

In each embodiment, at least one expansion chamber is provided for silencing and cooling the exhaust gases and exhaust gases are delivered from the engine exhaust port to the expansion chamber through a horizontally extending exhaust conduit that has its outlet opening communicating with the expansion chamber at a position spaced substantial distances from the vertically extending side and end walls of the expansion chamber for precluding the likelihood of entry of water into the engine cylinders through the exhaust system. In one embodiment, two such expansion chambers are employed.

    摘要: A personal watercraft can have a steering nozzle pivoting in accordance with the operation of a steering handle unit to change the traveling direction of a vehicle body. A steering position sensor can be configured to detect the steering angle of the steering handle unit. An actuator can be arranged to pivot the steering nozzle to change the steered angle thereof. A running speed sensor can be configured to detect the running speed of the vehicle body, and a control device. The control device can determine an operational amount of the actuator and control the actuator based upon the detection amount of the steering position sensor, the running speed sensor, and a steering ratio preset with reference to the steering angle and the running speed. The steering ratio is set to be smaller as the running speed becomes larger.

The engine comprises a cylinder head, a cylinder body and a crankcase. An induction system supplies air to the engine for combustion. The induction system comprising an intake box, an intake silencer, and a set of intake pipes that extend from the intake box to the engine. The intake pipes extend upward and inward toward the engine. A protective chamber is formed by an inside surface of the intake box, an outside surface of the engine and a lower surface of the pipes. A vapor separator is disposed within this protective chamber. The protective chamber can be augmented by an overhanging portion of the cylinder head, a protrusion from the cylinder body or other extensions from the intake box.

An exhaust control valve cooperates with the exhaust port and is movable between at least a first position for advancing the closing of the exhaust port so as to increase the compression ratio in the engine and a second position for delaying the closing of the exhaust port so as to decrease the compression ratio in the engine. Means for controlling the exhaust control valve between the first and second position are provided and are controlled in response to a watercraft condition.

    摘要: An improved fuel delivery and injection system for a small watercraft engine reduces the heat effects within an enclosed engine compartment upon a fuel pump of and the fuel within a fuel injection system. The fuel delivery system includes a vapor separator and a high-pressure fuel pump. The fuel pump is at least partially located within the vapor separator. The fuel within the vapor separator cools the fuel pump. The vapor separator also is positioned between a pair of air ducts such that an air stream between the ducts cools the fuel within the vapor separator. This arrangement consequently improves the consistency of the air/fuel ratio in the fuel charges delivered to the engine cylinders, provides a compact structure between the fuel pump, and the vapor separator and improves the durability of the fuel pump.
