The method includes determining a number of different block sizes in the video frame; and, performing a variable block size motion vector process if the number of different block sizes in the video frame is greater than one, the variable block size motion vector process comprising constructing a pyramid of motion vectors from the plurality of motion vectors, the pyramid having at least a first layer and a second layer of motion vectors, each of the first and second layers having a set of motion vectors based on a particular block size. An apparatus for performing the inventive method is also disclosed.

    摘要: This disclosure describes a number of techniques for processing multimedia data that can improve multi-program “picture-in-picture” viewing, particularly in a wireless mobile apparatus setting. In one example, a method includes receiving multiple channels of the multimedia data, decoding frames associated with two or more of the channels, presenting first frames of a first channel at a first frame rate, and presenting second frames of a second channel at a second frame rate while presenting the first frames, wherein the second frame rate is lower than the first frame rate. In another example, method includes receiving multiple channels of the multimedia data, receiving channel switch frames (CSFs) associated with the multiple channels, and simultaneously presenting the CSFs associated with two or more of the multiple channels to a user.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for providing temporal scaling frames for use in digital multimedia. The method involves using a removable unidirectional predicted temporal scaling frame communication along with intra-coded frames and/or inter-coded frames. The method involves the ability to selectively remove the temporal scaling frame(s) from being transmitted or decoded in order to satisfy, for example, power limits, data rate limits, computational limits or channel conditions. Examples presented include encoders, transcoders and decoders where the decision to drop the removable temporal scaling frames could be made.

    摘要: This disclosure is directed to techniques for encoding and decoding transitional effects, i.e., visual video effects that are used to transition from a current scene of a multimedia sequence. According to the disclosed techniques, an encoding device detects a transitional effect associated with a multimedia sequence during the encoding of the multimedia sequence, and transmits information as part of an encoded multimedia sequence to identify the transitional effect associated with the encoded multimedia sequence to a decoder. The information may comprise metadata that can be used by the decoder to simulate or re-create the transitional effect. The decoder simulates a transitional effect in response to the information.

One example method of providing multimedia content includes receiving, at an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) enabled first electronic device, multimedia content from a content-providing electronic device via an IMS network, where the multimedia content has a first format. The method also includes converting, at the IMS-enabled first electronic device, the multimedia content from the first format to a second format that is different from the first format. The method further includes transmitting, from the IMS-enabled first electronic device to a second electronic device, the converted multimedia content in the second format, where the converted multimedia content is transmitted from the first electronic device to the second electronic device via a local network that is different from the IMS network.
