摘要: Disclosed herein are an apparatus and method for searching for a global minimum of a point cloud registration error. The apparatus includes memory in which at least one program is recorded and a processor for executing the program. The program performs collecting multiple registration results in which the registration error between a source point cloud and a target point cloud is a local minimum as candidates and selecting the registration result in which the registration error between the source point cloud and the target point cloud is a global minimum, among the candidates. Collecting the multiple registration results may comprise repeatedly randomly initializing the source point cloud and the target point cloud and registering the initialized source point cloud to the initialized target point cloud to thereby search for a registration result in which the registration error therebetween is a local minimum.

摘要: Generating a virtual representation of an interaction includes determining a potential user interaction with a physical object in a physical environment, determining an object type associated with the physical object, and obtaining an object-centric affordance region for the object type, wherein the object-centric affordance region indicates, for each of one or more regions of the object type, a likelihood of user contact. The object-centric affordance region is mapped to a geometry of the physical object to obtain an instance-specific affordance region, is used to render the virtual representation of the interaction with the physical object.

摘要: Apparatus and method for efficient BVH construction. For example, one embodiment of an apparatus comprises: a memory to store graphics data for a scene including a plurality of primitives in a scene at a first precision; a geometry quantizer to read vertices of the primitives at the first precision and to adaptively quantize the vertices of the primitives to a second precision associated with a first local coordinate grid of a first BVH node positioned within a global coordinate grid, the second precision lower than the first precision; a BVH builder to determine coordinates of child nodes of the first BVH node by performing non-spatial-split binning or spatial-split binning for the first BVH node using primitives associated with the first BVH node, the BVH builder to determine final coordinates for the child nodes based, at least in part, on an evaluation of surface areas of different bounding boxes generated for each of the child node.

摘要: One embodiment is directed to a method for presenting views of a very large point data set, comprising: storing data on a storage system that is representative of a point cloud comprising a very large number of associated points; automatically and deterministically organizing the data into an octree hierarchy of data sectors, each of which is representative of one or more of the points at a given octree mesh resolution; receiving a command from a user of a user interface to present an image based at least in part upon a selected viewing perspective origin and vector; and assembling the image based at least in part upon the selected origin and vector, the image comprising a plurality of data sectors pulled from the octree hierarchy.

摘要: This application is directed to system and methods that facilitate communications within virtual environments. Types of communications contemplated include non-verbal, pictographic communications. For example, the inventive subject matter can facilitate allowing users to use gesture-based inputs to apply writing to aspects of a virtual environment. When writing is applied to, e.g., a wall within a virtual environment, systems and methods of the inventive subject ensure that writing can be made visible to other users within that virtual environment, thereby facilitating a wide variety of new modes of in-game communications.
