    摘要: A D.C. isolation transformer consisting of a primary group of one or more flux shuttles coupled, preferably inductively coupled but alternatively capacitively or resistively coupled, to a secondary group of one or more additional flux shuttles is capable of transforming, and transmitting, power at both alternating and direct currents. A flux shuttle is a plurality, n, of Josephson junctions interconnected in parallel one to the next by like plurality minus one, n-1, of inductors. When the Josephson junctions and the inductors are equivalent within and between the flux shuttles as comprise both the primary and the secondary of the transformer then the transformer device will have a voltage gain of exactly an integer number, i.e. 2, 3, 4 etc. The transformer is preferably implemented in planar thin film technology, the Josephson junctions being created with the Selective Non-Anodizing Process (SNAP) while the inductors are superconducting stripline.

    摘要: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a Meissner Engine Regulator (MER) that includes a superconducting inductive element (SCIE) supplying a secondary winding coupled to recirculate excess energy from the SCIE core to a feedback winding controlled to regulate the SCIE magnetic field strength to be substantially at or below a critical magnetic field strength (HC). In an illustrative example, Hc may be the maximum field strength to obtain the Meissner effect in the SCIE. In some examples, the SCIE may be wound with n-filar windings. The SCIE may further include a first primary electrically coupled to and powered by a DC-to-AC power inverter, for example. The secondary winding may operate to remove excess energy from the magnetic field in the SCIE, for example, and store it in a capacitor. The SCIE may be supercooled, with liquid nitrogen, for example, such that the MER reaches electrical efficiencies approaching 100%.

    摘要: A cryogenic cooling system for a superconducting device includes a thermally insulated cryostat for containing liquid nitrogen in which the superconducting device immersed, a cryocooler for cooling the superconducting device, and a cryogenic fluid circuit for thermally coupling the superconducting device to a cold head of the cryocooler. The cryogenic fluid circuit includes a heat exchanger in the cryostat for immersion in the liquid nitrogen, a condenser thermally coupled to the cold head, a liquid delivery tube coupling the condenser to the heat exchanger for conveying cryogenic liquid condensed in the condenser to the heat exchanger, and a gas return tube coupling the heat exchanger to the condenser for returning cryogen vapor evaporated from the cryogenic liquid in the heat exchanger to the condenser.

    摘要: A system and method for protecting a superconductor from a quench condition. A quench protection system is provided to protect the superconductor from damage due to a quench condition. The quench protection system comprises a voltage detector operable to detect voltage across the superconductor. The system also comprises a frequency filter coupled to the voltage detector. The frequency filter is operable to couple voltage signals to a control circuit that are representative of a rise in superconductor voltage caused by a quench condition and to block voltage signals that are not. The system is operable to detect whether a quench condition exists in the superconductor based on the voltage signal received via the frequency filter and to initiate a protective action in response.

    摘要: An electrical device operating on the principle of induction, such as a transformer. The device employs High Temperature Superconductors to build pancake coils having a very low height to diameter ratio. These pancake coils are placed around ferromagnetic core legs as in a conventional transformer. In multiphase applications, the low height to diameter ratio of the pancake coils causes the transformer to become quite wide. The present invention proposes overlapping the adjacent pancake coils in a multiphase induction device to reduce the width. A specific example of a 3-phase power transformer is presented.
