Abstract:
A klystron has a hollow beam electron gun that has a circular planar electron emitting surface. A hollow electron beam is directed from the electron gun through a plurality of drift tubes, resonant chambers and magnetic fields to a collector. The hollow electron beam does not experience significant radial movement and can operate at a lower beam voltage which reduces the required length of the RF interaction circuit and lowers the risks of RF arcing.
Abstract:
An exemplary system and method for providing a multi-layer klystron-type electron beam device for the generation and amplification of millimeter-wave electromagnetic radiation is disclosed as comprising inter alia: a cathode layer (130); a collector layer (100); an extraction layer (120); a control layer (140); an input cavity (150); an output cavity (170); several ceramic spacer layers (103, 105, 107) dispose intermediately between the cathode (130) and the collector (100); and optionally, several magnetic ceramic layers (160, 165) for beam forming and focusing. After the klystron's layers are assembled, the device may be fired to form a substantially monolithic structure.
Abstract:
A traveling-wave tube having a cylindrical vacuum envelope surrounded by a permanent-magnet system of ring-shaped pole washers and magnet rings respectively disposed therebetween and having opposite polarizations alternatingly in axial direction, which includes spacer rings formed of nonmetallic material surrounding the cylindrical vacuum envelope and spacing the magnet rings therefrom, corresponding magnet rings and spacer rings being soldered together into respective strong and stable units.
Abstract:
A reflex triode for use in producing ultra-high-current (>10.sup.5 A), ul-high-power (>10.sup.11 W) ion beams includes an improved anode and an improved cathode and has a low inductance design. A cylindrical anode stalk supporting the anode is positioned inside of and closely spaced from a cylindrical cathode shank which supports the cathode. Magnetic insulation allows for a close spacing between the anode stalk and cathode shank which reduces the inductance. The improved cathode is embedded in a cathode mount to reduce divergence of the ion beam. The improved anode consists of conducting concentric rings with thin film in the space between the rings to produce a more uniformly dense ion beam having low divergence.
