Abstract: A power generation device for a utility vehicle having a battery source capable of storing electrical energy and selectively outputting electrical energy and selectively receiving electrical energy, a logic/driver module operably coupled to the battery source and capable of outputting power to a drive system of the utility vehicle, an internal combustion engine capable of outputting a mechanical driving force in response to a control input from the logic/driver module, and a brushless DC motor operably coupled to the internal combustion engine via a coupler and electrically coupled to the logic/driver module. The brushless DC motor is capable of operating as a generator in response to the mechanical driving force of the internal combustion engine, thereby outputting electrical energy to the logic/driver module, and further is capable of operating as an electric motor in response to input of electrical energy from the logic/driver module.

Abstract: A propulsion system for a tiltrotor aircraft includes an engine supported by the airframe and a fixed gearbox operably coupled to the engine. Inboard and outboard pedestals are supported by the airframe and positioned above the wing. A pylon assembly is rotatably coupled between the inboard and outboard pedestals. The pylon assembly includes a spindle gearbox having an input gear, a mast operably coupled to the input gear and a proprotor assembly operable to rotate with the mast. The spindle gearbox is rotatable about a conversion axis to selectively operate the tiltrotor aircraft between helicopter and airplane modes. A common shaft, rotatable about the conversion axis, is configured to transfer torque from an output gear of the fixed gearbox to the input gear of the spindle gearbox. Each of the inboard and outboard pedestals includes a journal bearing that provides a stiff coupling with the pylon assembly.

Abstract: An auxiliary seating system for a light weight utility vehicle that comprises a seat support cage attachable to a rear portion of the vehicle, and a pair of seat assemblies mounted to the cage structure such that each seat assembly is oriented to be facing at least partially inward toward a longitudinal center line of the vehicle. Each seat assembly comprises a seat bottom that is pivotal between a down position and an up position. Each seat assembly can include a golf bag yoke disposed on an underside of the seat bottom, and a seat belt that retains a passenger within the seat assembly when the seat bottom is in the down position, and retains a golf bag within the respective golf bag yoke when the seat bottom is in the up position.

Abstract: The present invention includes an air flow bypass for a tiltrotor engine comprising: a ram air inlet comprising bypass door(s) capable of at least partially or fully blocking a ram air flow through the ram air inlet; a barrier filter inlet positioned in a side, a bottom, and/or a top of a tiltrotor engine nacelle; a filter plenum; a selector duct comprising one or more openings; and one or more selector duct doors or covers over the one or more openings; wherein the barrier filter inlet, the filter plenum, the one or more openings in the selector duct, the selector duct, and an engine are in fluid communication and the bypass door(s) in the ram inlet are closed and the barrier filter inlet provides filtered air flow to the engine when the aircraft is in hover operations.

Abstract: An aircraft rotor assembly has a central yoke and a plurality of rotor blades coupled to the yoke for rotation with the yoke about an axis, each blade having a Lock number of approximately 5 or greater. A lead-lag pivot for each blade is a radial distance from the axis and allows for in-plane lead-lag motion of the associated blade relative to the yoke, each pivot allowing for in-plane motion from a neutral position of at least 1 degree in each of the lead and lag directions. Lead and lag motion of each blade is opposed by a biasing force that biases the associated blade toward the neutral position, and the biasing force is selected to achieve a first in-plane frequency of greater than 1/rev for each blade.

Abstract: A pylon assembly for a tiltrotor aircraft includes a fixed pylon having an outboard end. A rotor assembly is rotatably coupled to the fixed pylon and is operable to rotate between a generally vertical orientation in a vertical takeoff and landing mode and a generally horizontal orientation in a forward flight mode. The rotor assembly includes a proprotor operable to produce a generally vertical slipstream in the vertical takeoff and landing mode and a generally horizontal slipstream in the forward flight mode. A wing extension is rotatably coupled to the outboard end of the fixed pylon. The wing extension is operable to rotate generally with the rotor assembly such that a minimal dimension of the wing extension remains in the slipstream of the proprotor.

Abstract: An engine cooling system for a rotorcraft includes an engine having an engine cooling circuit, a hydraulic pump powered by the engine to pump hydraulic fluid, and a hydraulic circuit in fluid communication with the hydraulic pump and the engine cooling circuit, the hydraulic circuit including at least one hydraulic-powered component. The hydraulic pump is adapted to pump the hydraulic fluid through both the hydraulic circuit and the engine cooling circuit, thereby cooling the engine.
