Abstract:
Forehearth constructions are described in which means are provided to heat the sides of the stream of molten glass (27) passing along the forehearth from a glass-making furnace to one or more molten glass outlets by way of flames emerging from a series of substantially horizontal slots. The slots are located in the side walls of the channel above the level of the molten glass surface when the forehearth is operating, and the ribbon of flame provides improved heat transfer to the molten glass stream. Burner blocks are disclosed for use in constructing a forehearth of this type, each consisting of a block of refractory material having an internal cavity (3) of generally wedge-shaped construction and having an elongated outlet in. the form of a slot (4) in the face of the block. A combustible gaseous mixture, or the components to form a combustible gaseous mixture, are fed into the cavity remote from the slot.
Abstract:
A mill for crushing a bed of materials by compression includes: a horizontal-axis cylinder the interior wall having a runway track for a crushing roller placed inside the cylinder, a unit rotating the cylinder at a speed that spins the material outward, the crushing roller, a unit for pressing the crushing roller against the runway track of the cylinder, an inlet for supplying material for crushing at one end of the cylinder and an outlet for crushed material at the other end, a unit for controlling the movement of the material so it travels over only a fraction of the length of the cylinder in each revolution and passes between the cylinder and the roller several times before reaching the outlet. The runway track is followed by a downstream lip opposing material flow, downstream of the crushing roller in the direction in which the material travels.
Abstract:
A composite placement machine has a simplified fiber delivery path from a creel to a lay-up table. A carriage is mounted for motion in the Y-axis along the length of an overhead beam. A composite placement head having a shiftable compaction roller is supported by the carriage. A stationary creel at one end of the overhead beam forms a band of composite material having a width that extends in the X-axis. A lay-up table is mounted for motion in the X-axis and rotary motion about a C-axis that is perpendicular to the X and Y-axes. The motion of the head in the Y-axis, the shiftable compaction roller, and the motion of the lay-up table X-axis and the C-axis allows the head to apply composite material to the lay-up table in both Y-axis directions in any orientation without twisting the band of composite material relative to the X and Y-axes.
Abstract:
A method directs fuel-oxidant premix into a reaction zone through a first total premix inlet flow area, and causes the premix to combust and form a stable flame projecting into a process chamber through an outlet from the reaction zone. At a time when the process chamber has a temperature at or above an auto-ignition temperature of the fuel, the flame is blown off to initiate diffuse combustion in the process chamber without a stable flame. The flame is blown off by directing the premix into the reaction zone through a second total premix inlet flow area greater than the first total premix inlet flow area.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a method and system for sorting items comprising movable carriages (10) intended to transport the items, and connected to each other by a link (19), along a track having sections located at levels at different heights linked by ascending and descending slopes, a control system and drive units intended to move the carriages (10). Dedicated thrust units, separate from the drive units, are added on the slopes and are controlled individually by the control system so as to deliver a constant force in order to prevent the carriages (10) experiencing tension at the links (19, 20) as a result of the weight of the items and/or the carriages (10) present on the slopes.
Abstract:
A cassette intended to be provided on a rolling mill, the cassette (1) forming a self-supporting unit including: a roller intended to constitute one of the two intermediate rollers of the rolling mill; two chocks (3) whereon are mounted the ends of the roller (2); at least one support arm (4) of the at least one side bearing member the support arm extending between the two chocks and being mounted pivotingly in relation thereto. The cassette includes at least one pair of support elements (5) receiving the ends of a rotating shaft (6) of the at least one support arm and the two support elements being detachably fastened, respectively, on the two chocks so as to allow the disassembly of the at least one support arm of the chocks and/or the assembly of the at least one support arm on the chocks independently of the disassembly/assembly of the roller.

A heat exchanger metal matrix has a stack of components in which at least one of the components is bound by an adhesive layer based on an epoxide resin containing a corrosion inhibitor, and the adhesive layer is loaded with 20 to 60% by mass of a heat conductor so that a heat conductivity of the adhesive layer is in a range of 2 to 5 W/m/K. The heat exchanger metal matrix may be applied to corrosive environments, notably marine environments.

The reservoirs (1) have a cylindrical outer envelope (100) made up of at least one metal tube (101) of the type of those used for gas pipelines and oil pipelines, for which: the external diameter is more than 32 inches (813 mm); and the ratio of the length thereof to the outer diameter thereof is greater than 8.
Abstract:
A low NOx combustion method includes steps of injecting reactants into a combustion chamber. A primary reactant stream, including fuel and combustion air premix, is injected from a premix burner port into the combustion chamber. A staged fuel stream is injected into the combustion chamber from a staged fuel injector port adjacent to the premix burner port. A stream of recirculated flue gas is injected into the combustion chamber from a flue gas injector port that is adjacent to the premix burner port and adjacent to the staged fuel injector port. In this manner, the stream of recirculated flue gas is injected into the combustion chamber unmixed with the primary reactant stream and unmixed with the staged fuel stream.
Abstract:
A method supplies reactants, including fuel gas, to burners that discharge the reactants into a furnace process chamber. In a stable flame mode of operation, stable flames are projected from the burners into the furnace process chamber. At a time when the furnace process chamber has a temperature at or above an autoignition temperature of the fuel gas, a diffuse combustion mode is initiated by supplying a selected burner with additional reactants, including reactants diverted from another burner, to blow off the stable flame at the selected burner.
