Abstract:
A system, for linearizing an output signal derived from a condition sensing device wherein the reciprocal of the sensor resistance, i.e., the conductance of the sensor, varies linearly according to the changes in the sensed condition, comprises an amplifier having two input terminals and an output terminal, a constant voltage source connected to one of said input terminals, a condition sensing device of the aforesaid nature connected to the other of the input terminals, and a feedback resistor connected between the output terminal and the input terminal to which is connected the condition sensing device such that the amplifier supplies a substantially constant voltage to the humidity sensing device and varies its output in accordance with the linear conductance change of the sensor.
Abstract:
A flame detection system utilizes a flame responsive impedance, such as a lead sulphide photocell, and responds to the change in infrared radiation and the flame flicker frequency of the sensed flame. The flame responsive impedance is connected through a variable impedance means to a source of direct current voltage. The voltage between the flame responsive impedance and the variable impedance means is compared by an amplifier to a voltage divider network so that a feedback voltage can be generated by the amplifier to control the variable impedance means. The variable impedance means is controlled by the feedback so as to keep the direct current voltage across the flame responsive impedance constant to compensate for variations in flame background radiation, and cell to cell variation. The system then uses a band-pass amplifier and detector-integrator system to control an output switch.

A combustion products detector system of the type having at least one ionization chamber, the combustion products sensing ionization chamber being open or accessible to the surrounding air. The output signal voltage from the chamber is connected through an FET to a four terminal voltage comparator switch, which four terminal switch has an easily adjustable threshold voltage.
Abstract:
A manifold gas valve having a plug valve with main, pilot and ignitor gas passageways therein; a knob for rotating the plug valve, a pilot burner flame responsive safety valve upstream of the plug valve and a normally closed ignitor valve in the ignitor gas passageway. There is means on said knob arranged to actuate said ignitor valve and safety valve to their open positions, when the plug valve is in the position that permits gas flow to both a pilot burner and an ignitor burner for igniting the pilot burner from a remote position but permits no gas flow to the main burner, when the knob is moved axially with respect to the plug valve.

A unique hermetic seal to join an inner wall of a ring shaped member made of a semi-conductor silicon material and a glass tube which is positioned within and spaced away from the inner wall of the ring uniformally heating the ring and the tube with the assistance of a carbon block which surrounds these parts as a heat transferring agent to change the glass from a brittle to a ductile state and applying the weight of a tapered mandrel against the inner wall of the ductile tube so that the outer wall of the tube will be forced into a fused, hermetic sealed engagement with the material forming the bored out wall portion of the silicon ring.
Abstract:
An improved strain responsive line sensor detection system which is selectively sensitive to motion of a mass on a surface. In a line sensor having an uniform thin film plated wire, the sensitivity of the line sensor falls off with distance of the intrusion from the source end of the line where are connected the high frequency drive and the processor electronics. In this invention, the thin film plated wire is made monotonically nonuniform along its length in one or more of its magnetic properties and parameters, i.e., the magnetostriction may have a gradient along its length, the plating thickness may have a gradient along its length and be made progressively thicker, and the Hk may have a decreasing gradient along its length, to compensate in whole or in part for the losses in the plated wire thereby making it possible to extend the length of a thin film line sensor.

A condition control reversible motor system operates to rebalance a bridge circuit by means of a feedback potentiometer, the potentiometer wiper providing the energization potential to the bridge circuit. A reference voltage source and a lightly back-biased diode are connected to the bridge circuit in order to insure that the system always drives to a preferred or safe end in the event that the feedback potentiometer wiper open-circuits from the potentiometer resistive element due to dirt or some other defect.
