The present invention relates to the discovery that specific human taste receptors in the T2R taste receptor family respond to particular bitter compounds. Also, the invention relates to the discovery of specific hT2R9 alleles and their disparate activity in functional assays with the same biter ligands. The invention further relates to the use of these T2R receptors in assays for identifying ligands that modulate the activation of these taste receptors by specific bitter ligands and related compounds. These compounds may be used as additives and/or removed from foods, beverages, cosmetics and medicinals in order to modify (block) T2R-associated bitter taste. Also T2R ligands may be used as therapeutics to treat and modulate T2R associated gastrointestinal and metabolic functions as well as treat gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases such as eating disorders, food sensing, food absorption, obesity, diabetes, Crohn's disease, celiac disease, et al.

Polymerization process for preparing mono-disperse organic/inorganic nanocomposite microspheres in the field of nano technology is disclosed. The process comprises preparing of two different miniemulsion systems of A with inorganic nanoparticles and B with polymeric monomers in advance; adding water-soluble initiator into miniemulsion A, stirring till complete dissolution finally, heating the mixed system to a given temperature for isothermal reaction. The grain size of the as-prepared superparamagnetic Fe3O4/polystyrene using to present invention is homogeneous and controllable, and the magnetic particles content is controllable.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a circle of trust on a network. The circle of trust is configured by exchanging credential of a first and a second affiliated entity. The credentials of the first affiliated entity is stored in a trusted partner list of the second affiliated entity. The credentials of the second affiliated entity is stored in a trusted partner list of the first affiliated entity. Thereafter, a circle of trust session may be provided when a client device initiates use of a resource on a relying party device by providing an authentication assertion reference. The identity of the issuing party of the authentication is determined as a function of the authentication assertion reference. The relying party sends an authentication query containing its credential to the issuing party. The issuing party determines if the relying party is a trusted entity based upon whether the relying party's credential is contained in the trusted partner list of the issuing party.

Instant messaging communications are controlled using themes. A theme is a definition of properties and features of a specific instance of an instant messaging communications environment. Themes are stored at a server computer and may be requested by users of a client computer. Themes may be made available to users based on enterprise policies established by the owner of the server computer. Once downloaded to the client computer, a theme may be personalized by the user of the client computer provided personalization is consistent with the enterprise policy. Inheritance techniques may be used to provide personalized themes that remain consistent with enterprise policy while extending functions not defined in the enterprise policy. A user may select different themes manually. Alternatively, theme selection may be automated based on system detection of events such as time of day, user location, availability of network connections and the like. Changes in a downloaded theme may be returned to and stored by the server for future use by the user of the client computer.

These receptors comprise a first polypeptide which comprises extracellular and transmembrane domains wherein the transmembrane domains are at least 95% identical to the transmembrane domains of specific T1R2 polypeptides, and the extracellular domains are at least 95% identical to the corresponding extracellular domains of the specific T1R2 polypeptide or a different GPCR; and a second polypeptide which comprises extracellular and transmembrane domains wherein the transmembrane domains are at least 95% identical to the transmembrane domains of specific T1R3 polypeptides, and the extracellular domains are at least 95% identical to the corresponding extracellular domains of the specific T1R3 polypeptide or that of a different GPCR.
