Abstract:
A wave reduction system for a water mattress having a plurality of buoyant chambers sealed on a separation sheet used to divide the mattress interior between an upper and lower water containing chambers. The separation sheet is connected by a welded seam to a top and a bottom sheet of the mattress, and has cut-out portions at corners of the mattress to relieve stress on the welded seam. Passages are located in the separation sheet for communicating with each chamber.
Abstract:
A reverse transcriptase inhibitor such as 3'-azido-3-deoxythymidine is used for the treatment or prophylaxis of a retrovirus-associated carcinoma such as breast cancer in a human.
Abstract:
A sanding tool is disclosed that can be used to remove a raised defect or imperfection from a painted surface. The sanding tool includes a base that defines an arcuate guide surface configured to be placed in contact with the base. In general, the base supports a sanding element for movement with respect to the base in a sanding motion. The guide surface maintains the sanding element at a desired position with respect to the painted surface while the sanding element moves in the sanding motion. An offset of the sanding element with respect to the guide surface can be selectively adjusted in certain embodiments. In some embodiments the guide surface is defined by first and second prongs spaced apart widthwise of the base, with the sanding element mounted between the prongs. A convex oscillating point sanding element is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A thumb tab actuator for a firearm sling snap-hook is provided. The thumb tab actuator includes a body having a surface that engages a lever of a snap-hook that pivots in a first plane. The actuator body is adapted to be removably mounted to the lever, and the body includes a tab extending outwardly in a second plane transverse to the first plane when the body is mounted to the lever, such that the lever pivots in response to a force exerted on the tab. A user may couple the thumb tab to the snap-hook via a screw or other fastener. In some embodiments, the thumb tab includes a second tab for an ambidextrous configuration.
Abstract:
A sling for coupling a firearm to a user is disclosed. The sling comprises a front sling section having a front end and a rear end, a front connector located at the front end for connecting the front sling section to the firearm, and a front buckle having a handle that adjusts the length of the sling. The handle includes a first member extending outwardly from the front sling section and a second member transverse to first member, such that, when the second member is pulled in a first direction, the length of front sling section lengthens, and when the second member is pulled in a second direction, the length of the front sling section shortens. The sling further comprises rear sling section coupled to the front sling section and having a front portion and a rear portion, a rear buckle detachably coupling the front portion to the rear portion, a rear connector for connecting the rear sling section to the firearm, and a middle connector. The front connector releasably couples to the middle connector to form a loop.
Abstract:
A dynamic fiber temperature sensing package is provided herein. The sensing package includes a support structure, a holder coupled to the support structure, a sheath coupled to the support structure via the holder, and a fiber optic temperature sensor positioned within the sheath. The holder includes a material having a first thermal conductivity and the sheath includes a material having a second thermal conductivity, wherein the second thermal conductivity is greater than the first thermal conductivity.
Abstract:
A sling mount or attachment for the rear portion of a firearm is provided. The sling mount includes a cap and a base, removably coupled by screws around a buffer tube of a firearm. The sling mount further includes a connection loop positioned below the opening created by coupling the cap to the base. In some embodiments, the connection loop extends in a vertical plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the buffer tube, and is centrally located underneath it. A user may attach a sling to the connection loop via a snaphook in order to accomplish a one-point or two-point sling design.
Abstract:
A semiconductor structure having mesa structure comprising: a lower semiconductor layer; an upper semiconductor layer having a higher band gap than, and in direct contact with, the lower semiconductor layer to form a two-dimension electron gas (2DEG) region between the upper semiconductor layer. The 2DEG region has outer edges terminating at sidewalls of the mesa. An additional electron donor layer has a band gap higher than the band gap of the lower layer disposed on sidewall portions of the mesa structure and on the region of the 2DEG region terminating at sidewalls of the mesa. An ohmic contact material is disposed on the electron donor layer. In effect, a sideway HEMT is formed with the electron donor layer, the 2DEG region and the ohmic contact material increasing the concentration of electrons (i.e., lowering ohmic contact resistance) all along the contact between the lower semiconductor layer and the electron donor layer.
Abstract:
A computerized method for determining eligibility of military education benefits and calculating an award estimate based on each service member's individual personal, financial, and military background information. Potential students enter information via a user interface of the computer system. In response to the entered information, the computer system presents additional relevant questions based on the previous information entered by the service member. The computer system uses the entered information to provide a detailed and customized calculation of the total estimated aid.
Abstract:
A real time information feed system comprises an interface to receive a real time information feed and a data mining engine for retrieving data concerning a subscriber. A recommendation engine automatically modifies the real time information feed according to the mined data; and a subscriber interface outputs the modified real time information for delivery to the subscriber. The data mining engine is adapted to mine data in a real time communication medium used by the subscriber, such as a micro-blogging service. The data mining engine comprises an indexer for mining and indexing the real time information feed and the subscriber data to provide a plurality of indexes; and to generate vectors representing the separate indexes and to compare the vectors to modify. The data mining engine and the recommendation engine combine recommendation and information retrieval settings from a plurality of online and offline sources to produce a single amalgamated list of results to harness a user's usage patterns and social graph activity on a social network or updating service, that further allows the generation of user profiles as part of a media recommendation system.
