Abstract:
An annular metal flange portion of a member is concentrically arranged with respect to a glass cylindrical member and is reliably sealed to a side wall surface of the glass member by a hermetic sealing glass formed within an accumulation cavity between the metal and glass member. A compressive member is provided within the cavity for applying a compressive force during assembly against glass sealant material, and sealing glass formed therefrom, disposed within the cavity. A compressive force is applied to the compressive member during a heating operation of the sealing method for removal of liquid carriers of the glass sealant material and for hermetically sealing glass particles of that material. Compensation for shrinkage of the glass sealant material, and the sealing glass formed therefrom, during that heating operation is thereby provided. Also, the formation of bubbles and voids within the glass sealant material, and the sealing glass formed therefrom, is substantially avoided.
Abstract:
A single crystalline body of three conductivity regions. The center conductivity region forms junctions with the other two regions that diverge from each other as the junctions extend toward the emitting surface of the light emitting diode. The divergent junction structure improves the waveguiding of the generated light toward the emitting edge.

Special types of transmitted code and decoding signals for different selected range subintervals within the maximum range of interest result in the optimization of range sensitivity for each subinterval.
Abstract:
A dynamic convergence circuit includes a source of waveforms at a first frequency coupled to a waveshaping network for producing a predetermined current wave through a convergence coil. A modulating stage including an active current conducting device is coupled to the convergence coil in a direct current manner. An input electrode of the active current conducting device is coupled to a source of second frequency waveforms which control the conduction of the device for selectively loading the convergence coil and modulating the first frequency convergence coil current at the second waveform frequency. The active current conducting device may be coupled to the convergence coil by means of a unidirectional current conducting device such that only portions of the convergence coil current of one polarity are modulated.

A system for scanning a laser beam at television rates includes an acousto-optic Bragg-angle deflector for horizontal scanning, and a rotatable galvanometer mirror for vertical scanning. The optical path includes spherical and cylindrical lenses in an arrangement that utilizes inexpensive lenses, provides high resolution, and is physically compact.
Abstract:
A double-sided, holographic replica comprises a web of transparent, thermoplastic, sheet material having a separate series of off-axis-recorded, phase-modulated holograms pressed into each of the opposite surfaces, respectively, of the web. Oppositely disposed (front and rear) holograms are such as to provide angularly displaced reconstructed images, respectively, when a monochromatic read-out beam is transmitted through the web. The double-sided holographic replica is made by first pressing the web and a first holographic master between a first pair of heated calender rollers to form one replica on one surface of the web, and then pressing the web, while thermoplastically adhered to the first master, and a second holographic master between a second pair of heated calender rollers to form another replica on the other surface of the web. The first and second masters are subsequently cooled and separated from the web.
Abstract:
In a playback system employing a stylus to recover recorded signals from a video disc when relative motion between the disc and the stylus is established, a rotary stylus cleaner is provided. A freely pivoted, light stylus-arm carrying the stylus is mounted in a housing employed for movement of the stylus between a rest position and a play position. A rotary brush having an axis of rotation perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stylus-arm, is located in the path of movement of the stylus between the rest position and the play position. A friction wheel mounted on the axle carrying the rotatable brush, engages the turntable and causes rotation of the brush as the stylus threads through the brush during its travel between the rest position and the play position. A comb having its teeth in engagement with the bristles of the brush is secured to the board for the purpose of cleaning the brush.
Abstract:
A metal film having a predetermined thickness profile is obtained on a surface of an article through electroplating. The electroplating of the metal film on the article is done with an apparatus including a plurality of modifying electrodes and a body of plating material suspended in a plating solution. Electrical potentials are established at the article to be plated, the body of plating material, and at each one of the modifying electrodes. The particular electrical potential at the article, the body of plating material and at each one of the modifying electrodes is chosen to provide differences in electrical potential which result in a metal film having the predetermined thickness profile.

2. A pulse-echo distance determining system comprising means for transmitting a succession of pulses at a recurring frequency, means for receiving said pulses after reflection from a distant object, said receiving means consisting of a single channel that includes a gating circuit, means for producing gating pulses that recur at the same repetition rate as the received pulses but which have alternate pulses starting late in the gating pulse repetition cycle whereby there are produced early gating pulses that have a repetition rate equal to one-half the repetition rate of said received pulses and late gating pulses that have a repetition rate equal to one-half the repetition rate of said received pulses; means for applying said gating pulses to said gating circuit whereby received pulses reflected from said object appear in the output circuit of the receiving means when said received pulses and said gating pulses occur simultaneously or overlap in time, means for obtaining a control voltage that is a function of the relative amplitudes of two successive output pulses from the receiving means, and means for shifting the phase or timing of said gating pulses as a function of said control voltage and for holding said gating pulses in an overlapped time relation with respect to the received pulses as the distance to said object changes, and means for producing an indication that is a function of the phasing of said gating pulses whereby distance to the reflecting object is indicated.
