摘要: In one aspect, the invention provides ene-thiol elastomers comprising the reaction product of a polythiol free of hydrophilic groups and having at least two thiol groups and an aromatic, heterocyclic, aliphatic, or cycloaliphatic polyene having at least two reactive unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds. In another aspect, the invention provides ene-thiol elastomer comprising the reaction product of (a) a thiol terminated oligomer comprising the reaction product of a polythiol having two thiol groups and a first polyene or mixture of polyenes having two reactive unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds; and (b) a second polyene or a mixture of polyenes having at least 5 percent functional equivalents of unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds from polyenes having at least three unsaturated carbon to carbon bonds. The ene-thiol elastomers of the invention have a weight increase of not more than 4 weight percent in 15 days at a temperature of 22° C. when immersed in a solution of 96 parts by weight water and 4 parts by weight n-butanol and/or a water vapor transmission rate of less than 50 g-mm/m2-day at 40° C. according to ASTM D814.

摘要: A method of improving epoxy resin compositions to provide a cured resin having improved glass transition temperature and toughness characteristics is provided. The method includes providing in an epoxy resin composition an effective amount of a substituted fluorene unit in the composition. The fluorene component acts as a chain extension agent and provides for increased glass transition temperature and less cross-link density. As a result, improved toughness occurs. In preferred applications a toughening agent is provided in the resin composition, to further enhance toughness. Preferred resin compositions, cured resins and methods of providing improved cured resins are also provided.

摘要: A building panel for exterior and interior wall and roof surfaces comprises an elongated body formed of relatively thin, molded hardboard having upper and lower edges, opposite ends, an outer face adapted for exposure to the weather and a back face generally following the contour thereof. The body includes a lower edge portion extending upwardly and outwardly of the lower edge of the panel and integralling joining an intermediate fascia portion spaced outwardly of the lower edge. An upper edge portion integrally joins an upper edge of the intermediate fascia portion and includes an upwardly and outwardly extending segment adapted to underlie a lower edge portion of a panel(s) laid up in a next higher course. The upper edge portion also includes a second segment extending between the first segment and the upper edge of the panel and this second segment is generally parallel of the intermedate fascia panel portion and is adapted to underlie a portion of an intermediate fascia portion of a panel(s) laid up in a next higher course. The upper edge portion is formed with a plurality of longitudinally spaced apart, fastener receiving depressions extending inwardly of an outer face of the second segment of the upper edge portion. Longitudinally extending slot means are cut through the thin molded hardboard in the depressions between the inner and outer faces for receiving the shank of a nail or other fastener for securing the panels in place.
