Abstract:
The method of the present invention is directed to the storage and dispensing of a peroxide containing tooth whitening composition. During storage and subsequent use the composition in the storage chamber must be maintained segregated from the applicator surface. This is accomplished by delivering the peroxide containing tooth whitening composition from the storage chamber through a delivery channel having a length and a cross-sectional diameter sufficient to preclude the migration of moisture and the enzyme catalase from the application surface to the storage chamber. The composition is applied to teeth by means of bristles, a sponge surface or fibrillated surface. This applicator can be used with both aqueous and non-aqueous peroxide containing tooth whitening compositions.
Abstract:
Oral care compositions comprising: (a) a peroxide complex comprising a peroxide component and an N-vinyl heterocyclic polymer (e.g., poly-N-vinyl polylactam, or poly-N-vinyl-polyimide); (b) a whitening agent (e.g., hydrogen peroxide); and (c) an orally acceptable carrier. In one embodiment, the carrier comprises a film forming material. Methods are also provided for making an oral care composition comprising: (a) mixing a whitening agent, silicone adhesive and carrier fluid to form a homogenous mixture; (b) adding a peroxide complex to said homogenous mixture, wherein said complex comprises hydrogen peroxide and an N-vinyl heterocyclic polymer; and (c) mixing under vacuum.
Abstract:
An oral care composition comprising (a) a silica abrasive having an average particle size of no greater than the diameter of a dentin tubule, or, alternatively 8 microns or less; (b) zinc citrate, (c) a bioadhesive agent, and (d) an anticalculus agent. The oral care composition can reduce or inhibit biofilm formation and/or dentinal hypersensitivity in an oral cavity.
Abstract:
A tooth whitening system comprising a dental tray having a surface operable to confront a tooth surface, and a tooth whitening composition comprising a whitening agent and a hydrophobic polymer carrier. The tooth whitening composition is preferably substantially non-water soluble. A tooth whitening kit is also provided using a dental tray and the tooth whitening composition comprising a whitening composition and a hydrophobic polymer carrier.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are compositions comprising a fluoride ion source, a poly(propylene oxide)/poly(ethylene oxide) copolymer, and optionally a sparingly soluble acid; and methods of using and of making the same.
Abstract:
Disclosed are oral care compositions, for example dentifrice compositions, comprising an oral care composition comprising an orally acceptable vehicle, metal oxide particles having an average particle size of no greater than a dentin tubule and at least one amino acid capable of chelating the metal oxide. The composition may comprise a polymeric adherent material for adhering the metal oxide particles in the dentin tubule. The metal oxide particles have a median particle size of 5 microns or less, and may comprise zinc oxide.
Abstract:
A method of measuring the relative rates of release of a target metal ion from two or more samples includes: (i) providing at least two aliquots of a solution including an indicator, the indicator having a colour; (ii) dispersing a sample into each aliquot; and (iii) during step (ii), monitoring the colour of the indicator in situ to determine the rates of release of the target metal ions from the samples relative to one another. Each sample comprises at least one source of the target metal ion. The indicator comprises zincon. The samples are oral care compositions selected from a toothpaste, a tooth gel, and a tooth powder. The target metal ion is selected from the stannous and zinc (II).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an oral care composition with a high water content which has improved robustness towards microbial challenge. The oral care composition includes compositions comprising from 0.125 wt % to 0.75 wt % of a water soluble source of stannous ions, wherein the composition comprises at least 50 wt % water and wherein the source of stannous ions is selected from the group consisting of stannous chloride, stannous pyrophosphate, stannous formate, stannous acetate, stannous gluconate, stannous lactate, stannous tartrate, stannous oxalate, stannous malonate, stannous citrate, stannous ethylene glyoxide, and mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
The invention includes a dentifrice composition that comprises a zinc ion source, a polyphosphate ion source, an anethole, and a silica. The silica has a mean particle size of about 5 to about 12 microns, an Einlehner hardness of about 1 to about 20, and an oil absorption of about 40 to less than about 100 cc/100 g. The composition contains zinc ions and polyphosphate ions in a weight ratio of about 0.1:1 to about 10:1 and has a RDA value of about 100 to about 200 and a PCR value of about 75 to about 110. Related methods are also included.
Abstract:
Disclosed are oral care compositions and the use of such oral care compositions for treating conditions caused by biofilm formation. Also disclosed are methods for inhibiting biofilm formation and/or degrading biofilm. The oral care composition includes a sesquiterpenoid and an antimicrobial agent, in which the sesquiterpenoid and the antimicrobial agent are present in an amount effective to inhibit and/or degrade a biofilm in the oral cavity.
