    摘要: A vehicle includes first and second battery packs having respective first and second banks of contactors. The packs are wired in electrical parallel. A propulsion system is driven using electrical power from the packs. A controller determines which pack has the highest state of charge (SOC), and balances the SOC of the packs by controlling an open/closed state of the contactors. Contactors open to disconnect the pack having the highest SOC, and close again when a voltage difference between the packs is approximately zero. A system for use in the vehicle includes the packs, contactors, and controller. A method for controlling power flow in the vehicle includes determining which pack has the highest SOC, opening designated contactors during a near zero current event to disconnect the battery pack having the highest SOC, and closing the designated contactors when a voltage difference between the packs is approximately zero.

    摘要: An electric motor assembly includes a rotor hub, and a rotor supported on the rotor hub. The rotor hub has first and second hub portions, and the rotor has first and second annular rotor segments supported for rotation on the respective first and second hub portions. Each of the rotor segments has a respective set of magnets spaced circumferentially therearound. The rotor hub and the rotor segments are configured so that at least one of the rotor segments moves about the axis of rotation relative to the other of the rotor segments as the rotor hub rotates. The movement of the at least one of the rotor segments is an amount that increases as the speed of the rotor hub increases to reduce back electromotive force. The movement may be due to centrifugal force, which increases as speed increases, without requiring a control system to effect the movement.

    摘要: A hybrid transmission is provided with a motor and a torque-transfer device is operable to transfer torque from the motor to a transmission input member upstream in power flow from the transmission gearing arrangement. The torque transfer device may be a fluid coupling, such as a torque converter, including a torque converter lock-up clutch. In other embodiments, the torque transfer device is a launch clutch that may be either a wet clutch engagable via pressurized transmission fluid, or a dry clutch, such as used in a manual transmission. A disconnect clutch is selectively engagable to operatively connect an engine connection member with the motor to permit the motor to start the engine, such as after a stop. Many embodiments of the transmission include a one-way clutch arranged in parallel with the disconnect clutch. A method of starting the engine using such a transmission is also provided.

Torque-transmitting mechanisms are mounted concentric with, rotatable about and selectively engagable with the gears mounted on the intermediate shafts. A controller is operatively connected to the torque-transmitting mechanisms and to at least one of the torque-transmitting devices. The torque-transmitting mechanisms and torque-transmitting devices may be engaged such that torque is carried substantially equally by both intermediate shafts during a speed ratio established between the input member and the output member.

    摘要: An automatic dual clutch transmission includes an input clutch which selectively connects a prime mover to an electric motor. The electric motor output, in turn, drives a pair of gears, one of which is in constant mesh with a first gear on a first quill and a second gear on a second quill, the other being in constant mesh with a third gear on the first quill and a fourth gear on the second quill. On each quill, between each pair of gears driven by the input is a pair of dog clutches which connect one of the two gears to the associated quill. Each of the quills drives an input of a respective pair of friction clutches which drive a respective pair of layshafts or countershafts. A similar arrangement of a second pair of gears flanked by dog clutches connects each layshaft or countershaft through one of a pair of gears which are in constant mesh with a pair of output gears coupled to and driving a differential cage.

    摘要: A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) power system is provided that includes a vehicle electrical system (VES), an inverter-controller unit (ICU) and an AC electric motor/generator unit (MGU). The VES includes a first DC voltage source and a second DC voltage source coupled in series with the first DC voltage source. The VES also includes a first electrical load coupled across the first DC voltage source, and a second electrical load coupled across the second DC voltage source. The ICU is coupled across the first DC voltage source and the second DC voltage source and is designed to convert DC power from the first DC voltage source and the second DC voltage source to generate AC power for the AC electric MGU. Together the DC voltage sources can replace a conventional high-voltage DC voltage source. In some implementations, techniques are provided for “charge balancing” the first DC voltage source and the second DC voltage source without expensive devices.

A powertrain having a parallel combination of input clutches including a friction input clutch and a selectable one-way clutch is provided, as well as a method of control of such a powertrain. Another method of controlling a hybrid vehicle powertrain includes starting the engine via torque from a motor with the input clutch biased in an engaged position. If vehicle operating conditions are more efficiently met without operating the engine, the input clutch is disengaged to so that torque is provided only by the motor to the output member and to vehicle accessories operatively connected to the input member.
