摘要： Thermally stable polymers comprising resorcinol arylate chain members are prepared using an interfacial method comprising the steps of: (a) combining at least one resorcinol moiety and at least one catalyst in a mixture of water and at least one organic solvent substantially immiscible with water; and (b) adding to the mixture from (a) at least one dicarboxylic acid dichloride while maintaining the pH between 3 and 8.5 through the presence of an acid acceptor, wherein the total molar amount of acid chloride groups is stoichiometrically deficient relative to the total molar amount of phenolic groups.

摘要： Novel dibenzoylresorcinol compositions capable of absorbing ultraviolet light having the formula ##STR1## where Ar.sub.1 and Ar.sub.2 are independently substituted or unsubstituted monocyclic or polycyclic aryl groups, R is hydrogen, an aryl group, or a linear or branched alkyl chain having less than about 10 carbons, and Ar.sub.3 is an aryl group bearing at least one hydroxyl group. Methods of making the compositions are provided. The novel dibenzoylresorcinol compositions are methylene-bridged dibenzoylresorcinol derivatives having a phenol group on the bridging methylene and are compatible in coating compositions to improve the weatherability of thermoplastic substrates.

The novel dibenzoylresorcinol compositions are methylene-bridged dibenzoylresorcinol derivatives having a phenol group on the bridging methylene and are compatible in coating compositions to improve the weatherability of thermoplastic substrates.

The UV protective coating composition includes an acrylate polymer; and a non-crystallizing UV-absorber composition. The non-crystallizing UV absorber composition includes a dibenzoylresorcinol and at least one triazine compound. The dibenzoylresorcinol is present at a level in the range of from about 10 weight percent to about 25 weight percent, based on the total weight of the coating composition. Also provided is an article that includes the UV protective coating composition, and a method to protect the article.

The UV protective coating composition includes an acrylate polymer; and a non-crystallizing UV-absorber composition. The non-crystallizing UV absorber composition includes a dibenzoylresorcinol and at least one triazine compound. The dibenzoylresorcinol is present at a level in the range of from about 10 weight percent to about 25 weight percent, based on the total weight of the coating composition. Also provided is an article that includes the UV protective coating composition, and a method to protect the article.
