    摘要: Universal optical fiber connectors and their basic plugs, wherein the optical fiber connectors have some common elements for their connector-functions to permit an installation of optical fiber into one of the different type connectors for establishing their connection more easily and to facilitate a tuning operation with positioning key maintaining the same direction between eccentricity of the fiber core and the key. The basic plug has a ferrule, a spring element, and a cylindrical tube. The spring element is positioned between a ferrule and a cylindrical tube, so that it exerts forces toward them in an axial direction. The ferrule has a common dimensional structure for securing an optical fiber and has a shape enabling the connection to any one of various kinds of housing members. Thus, the basic plug connects separate optical fibers together through the housing member.

    摘要: In a method of grinding a ferrule, a ferrule is provided having a leading end portion having a surface disposed generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the ferrule. A grinding device is provided having a rotational base, an elastic member disposed on the base for rotation therewith, and a grinding sheet disposed on the elastic member for rotation therewith. The surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is brought into contact with a grinding surface of the grinding sheet. The base of the grinding device is then rotated until the surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is ground into a spherical surface. The spherical surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is then brought into contact with the grinding surface of the grinding sheet so that the longitudinal axis of the ferrule is inclined relative to the grinding surface. The base of the grinding device is then rotated until the spherical surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is ground into a spherical surface so that the longitudinal axis of the ferrule is inclined relative to a tangent passing through a vertex of the spherical surface.

The polishing fixture has radially outwardly projecting guide members for contacting the tubular member to limit the amount of polishing of the end face of the workpiece in a pressing direction during rotation and revolving movement of the lapping member.

    摘要: An end face polishing method provides an end face polishing apparatus having a main body, a jig board mounted on the main body and supporting at least one workpiece, a polishing board mounted on the main body for undergoing rotational and revolving movements relative to the main body, and abrasive members each removably connectable to the polishing board for rotational and revolving movements therewith. Each of the abrasive members has an abrasive surface with a hardness that is either higher or lower than the hardness of the abrasive surface of the others of the abrasive members. An end face of a workpiece is successively brought into pressure contact with the abrasive surface of each of the abrasive members in descending order of hardness of the abrasive surfaces while rotating and revolving the polishing board to thereby successively polish the end face of the workpiece.

    摘要: Provided are an optical connector plug and an optical connector, including: a shielding plate which is held in a plug frame holding hole of a plug housing in a manner that allows the shielding plate to tilt, the distal end of the shielding plate moving between a shielding position and an unshielding position; an operating plate which is held in a tiltable manner in the plug frame holding hole and adapted to tilt along with the shielding plate, the plug frame being capable of retracting, upon movement of the shielding plate to the shielding position, to a housing position at which no interference occurs with the shielding plate and the operating plate; and a biasing and holding member for biasing and positioning the shielding plate and the operating plate in a manner that brings the shielding plate to the shielding position as the plug frame moves to the housing position. When the plug frame is moved toward a front end of the plug housing, the operating plate is tilted by this movement of the plug frame, and the tilted operating plate pushes the shielding plate to the unshielding position, thus allowing the plug frame to move to an optical connection position with respect to the plug housing.
