摘要: A recording apparatus overwrites an input signal having pulse duration periods and pulse spacing periods to an optical disk by irradiation of a laser beam to form recording marks corresponding to the pulse duration periods. The apparatus includes a detector for detecting a leading edge of the pulse duration period and for producing a start signal thereupon, another detector for detecting a trailing edge of the pulse duration period and for producing a stop signal thereupon, a pattern setting circuit for setting a predetermined basic pattern, and a pattern generator for generating the basic pattern from its beginning in response to the start signal and for terminating the generation of the basic pattern in response to the stop signal. The apparatus further includes a circuit for forming a modulated signal using a full or portion of the basic pattern produced from the pattern generator. The laser output is produced in according with the modulated signals.

The method comprises the steps of heating said film at least once to its melting point, rapidly cooling said film after heating, measuring a transition temperature of said film after cooling, and comparing said transition temperature with a predetermined reference temperature.

摘要: A disk cartridge includes a cartridge body and a lid. The cartridge body includes: first and second principal surfaces opposed to each other; a storage space to store a disklike data storage medium; windows cut through the first and second principal surfaces to partially expose the data storage medium in the storage space; an opening for removing the data storage medium from the storage space; and write-protect indicator holes cut through the first and second principal surfaces to prohibit writing on the data storage medium stored. The lid is provided to cover and uncover the opening of the cartridge body. The cartridge body is shaped such that both of the first and second principal surfaces can be opposed to a pickup of an optical disk drive when the cartridge is loaded into the drive. Of the two write-protect indicator holes of the first and second principal surfaces, only the hole of the second principal surface is provided with a write enable/disable selecting mechanism that covers or uncovers the write-protect indicator hole.

摘要: In an optical information recording medium having at least two information layer, guide grooves for tracking or sample pits or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a first substrate. A first information layer formed by a thin film for reflecting a portion of a light beam made incident on the first substrate and permitting penetration of a portion of the light beam is formed on a surface of the first substrate. Guide grooves for tracking or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a second substrate. A second information layer having a reflectance higher than that of the first information layer is formed on a surface of the second substrate. Between the first information layer and the second information layer, there is formed a transparent separation layer for positioning the first information layer and the second information layer to be spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other.

摘要: An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing an information signal on/from both concave portions and convex portions of guide grooves formed on a recording medium is disclosed. The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus includes: an optical portion for focusing a light beam emitted from a light source on the recording medium; a focusing control portion for controlling a focal point of the light beam; a tracking control portion for controlling the position of the light beam; a selection portion for selecting which of the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves are used for recording or reproducing; a polarity inverting portion for inverting the polarity of an output signal from the tracking control portion depending on a result selected by the selection portion; a waveform setting portion for setting a modulation pattern for the light; and a signal reproduction portion for demodulating the information signal from a light reflected or transmitted by recorded marks recorded on the recording medium; wherein at least one of the focusing control portion, the tracking control portion, the waveform setting portion and the signal reproduction portion has at least two kinds of operation conditions for recording and reproducing the information signal on/from the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves, and wherein the operation conditions are selected depending on the result selected by the selection portion.

摘要: In an optical information recording medium having at least two information layer, guide grooves for tracking or sample pits or information pits corresponding to information signals are formed on a surface of a first substrate. 摘要: The present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing the PCE optical information recording disk under control of not only the crystallization velocity but also the complex index of refraction and thus the reflectance on the disk surface.The PCE optical information recording disk is suitable to be used under the constant angular velocity (the constant rotational numbers wherein the disk has a characteristic that the crystallization velocity is designed to become faster from inside area of the disk to outside area in the radical direction thereof under control of not only the crystallization velocity but also the complex index of refraction and thus the reflectance on the disk surface.In the case of mass production and high film formation to be required, the present invention provides an effective method for manufacturing the optical disk by means of sputtering from at least two targets at the same time in a manner that the crystallization velocity is increased in a radial direction from inside area to outside area in the disk.

摘要: A track on the disk is divided into plural concentric zones on the radial position thereof. During recording, the angular velocity varies according to the zones accessed for recording, and the disk is driven at a rotational velocity whereby the angular velocity is constant within any single zone but decreases as the radial position of the zone of the accessed track approaches the outside circumference of the disk. During reproducing, the disk is driven at a rotational velocity whereby the angular velocity is constant in all zones. The range of change in the relative linear velocity of the head to the track is thus smaller and the change in the recording conditions is less during recording. During reproducing, there is no delay time required for rotational control of the disk, and the desired track can be more quickly accessed.

摘要: An optical information recording medium includes: a substrate including a groove having a concave shape and a land having a convex shape adjacent to the groove; and a recording layer on the substrate, wherein the recording layer consists of a material which changes between a first state and a second state whose optical property is different from that of the first state, a first portion of the optical information recording medium including a portion in the first state of the recording layer having a first reflectance, and a second portion of the optical information recording medium including a region in the second state of the recording layer having a second reflectance which is different from the first reflectance, whereby information is recorded onto the groove and the land, and wherein a ratio of the first reflectance to the second reflectance, a phase of reflected light from the first portion and a phase of reflected light from the second portion are set such that at least one of an amplitude and a carrier to noise ratio (CNR) of a signal obtained by reproducing information from the groove is approximately identical to that from the land.
