    摘要: A disk cartridge includes a cartridge body and a lid. The cartridge body includes: first and second principal surfaces opposed to each other; a storage space to store a disklike data storage medium; windows cut through the first and second principal surfaces to partially expose the data storage medium in the storage space; an opening for removing the data storage medium from the storage space; and write-protect indicator holes cut through the first and second principal surfaces to prohibit writing on the data storage medium stored. The lid is provided to cover and uncover the opening of the cartridge body. The cartridge body is shaped such that both of the first and second principal surfaces can be opposed to a pickup of an optical disk drive when the cartridge is loaded into the drive. Of the two write-protect indicator holes of the first and second principal surfaces, only the hole of the second principal surface is provided with a write enable/disable selecting mechanism that covers or uncovers the write-protect indicator hole.

    摘要: A plurality of optical heads each of which comprises an independent light source and optical system are provided on the same side with respect to a recording medium having a plurality of recording layers. Alternatively, with respect to at least one light source in an optical head having a single objective lens and a plurality of light sources, an optical path correction system is provided on an optical path unique to the light source, and while light emitted from one light source is focused on a specific recording layer by shifting of the objective lens, light irradiated from another light source is focused on another recording layer by the optical path correction system. Thus, information can be reproduced from or recorded in a plurality of recording layers simultaneously and an error in focusing of light onto the plurality of recording layers can be suppressed.

    摘要: An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing an information signal on/from both concave portions and convex portions of guide grooves formed on a recording medium is disclosed. The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus includes: an optical portion for focusing a light beam emitted from a light source on the recording medium; a focusing control portion for controlling a focal point of the light beam; a tracking control portion for controlling the position of the light beam; a selection portion for selecting which of the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves are used for recording or reproducing; a polarity inverting portion for inverting the polarity of an output signal from the tracking control portion depending on a result selected by the selection portion; a waveform setting portion for setting a modulation pattern for the light; and a signal reproduction portion for demodulating the information signal from a light reflected or transmitted by recorded marks recorded on the recording medium; wherein at least one of the focusing control portion, the tracking control portion, the waveform setting portion and the signal reproduction portion has at least two kinds of operation conditions for recording and reproducing the information signal on/from the concave portions and the convex portions of the guide grooves, and wherein the operation conditions are selected depending on the result selected by the selection portion.

    摘要: Described is an optical recording medium having a mixture or integrated layers of a metal and an oxide which react with each other under an exothermic reaction at a high temperature upon receiving an irradiation of a laser. The metal and the oxide are in a relation that the oxide has a standard enthalpy of formation higher than that of the oxide obtained by oxidizing the metal. An area irradiated with a laser spot is heated to a high temperature and the oxide at the area is reduced by the metal into a metal which changes in the optical constant and can be detected optically. The reduction reaction in an exothermic reaction generates a thermal energy in addition to the thermal energy of the irradiated laser. The optical recording medium of this structure can make the recording work more efficient. A manufacturing method of the optical recording medium and a recording method using the same are also disclosed.
