摘要: A process for producing corrosion inhibiting particles comprising binding corrosion inhibiting anions to particles of an inorganic oxide by ion-exchange to form anion-exchanged particles, the anions of which are releasible by further ion-exchange in which the inorganic oxide particles having surface hydroxyl groups are first contacted with an acidic solution containing labile anions at a pH sufficiently below 7 for the protons of the hydroxyl groups to be replaced by the labile anions and thereafter contacting the particles of the labile anion-exchanged inorganic oxide with a solution containing the required corrosion inhibiting anions so that the labile anions are replaced by the corrosion inhibiting anions. The labile anions are anions of water soluble, acid compounds which have a lower affinity for the oxide surface than the required corrosion inhibiting anions and which form a soluble salt with the cation of the compound providing the corrosion inhibiting anions. The process facilitates the use of corrosion inhibiting anions which are sensitive to low pH in the preparation of corrosion inhibiting particles. In particular the process is useful for producing molybdate exchanged inorganic oxide particles.

摘要: A water soluble copolymer of polymerizable esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids having the hydrazide group as a substituent comprises a major proportion of monomer units which are methyl acrylate and/or methyl methacrylate and a minor proportion of co-monomer units which are one or more alkyl esters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid wherein the alkyl group comprises at least four carbon atoms. The copolymer has film forming properties which make it useful for use in protective coatings. The invention includes a film forming composition comprising the copolymer and a cross-linking agent which cross-linking agent is an aldehyde or an organic thermosetting resin containing methylol or methoxy groups, the copolymer and cross-linking agent being dissolved in an aqueous medium in amounts such that they will form a film when applied to a surface. The composition is applied to a surface and heated at 120.degree. to 180.degree. C. for from 5 mins. to 4 hours to produce a water insoluble coating from a water based composition containing the water soluble copolymer.

摘要: A method of mounting a fibre composite flywheel on a relatively stiff shaft, such as a metal or carbon fibre shaft, comprising passing the shaft through a hole in a hub at the center of the flywheel and securing the flywheel to the shaft wherein the shaft has a tapered portion and a deformable sleeve is positioned between the shaft and the hub of the flywheel on assembly. The deformable sleeve comprises a hollow cylinder having a tapered bore which corresponds to the tapered portion of the shaft and having an outside diameter which, before deformation, is larger than the diameter of the hole in the hub of the flywheel by an amount which is greater than the theoretical amount of radial growth which the hole in the hub would experience at the maximum operating speed of the flywheel. On assembly, the deformable sleeve is deformed such that it will fit in the hole in the hub of the flywheel and the deformable sleeve is driven along the tapered portion of the shaft thereby forcing the deformable sleeve towards its undeformed shape and subjecting the hub of the flywheel to compressive forces.

摘要: A pumpable slurry of mineral particles, e.g., coal, in water contains 50 to 85% by weight of mineral particles based on the combined weight of mineral particles and water. The mineral component contains at least 30% by weight of coarse particles having a particle size in the range 5 to 50 mm, 10 to 40% by weight of fine particles having a particle size less than 200 micron and the balance to 100% of intermediate sized particles. The slurry is stable without the use of additives and can be pumped through a pipeline.

摘要: Betaines containing the pyridine nucleus, some of which are novel per se, are dissolved in sea water or formation water, the concentration of betaine being from 200 to 100,000 ppm, to give a surfactant solution suitable for displacing crude oil from a formation in an enhanced oil recovery process. These betaines have low interfacial tension (against oil), a high tolerance towards divalent metal ions and good temperature stability as compared with betaines previously proposed for enhanced oil recovery.

The annular gap has an inlet for a fuel gas supply and the upper part of the inner tube has a plurality of channels. The channels are shaped to encourage upward and inward flow of fuel gas so as to mix with air issuing from the outlet of the inner tube.

摘要: A method for the production by resin injection moulding of fibre reinforced articles from fibrous material bonded in a curable matrix material which articles comprise two or more spokes (2, 3, 4) extending from a hub portion (1), each spoke (2, 3, 4) being in the form of a loop is characterized in that the fibrous material is arranged such that at least as many rovings (13, 14, 15 or 22, 23, 24) of the fibrous material as there are spokes (2, 3, 4) extend in continuous paths from the hub portion (1) around each of the spokes, each of the rovings being overlaid for at least part of its length by each of the other rovings. The method is suitable for the production of intricately shaped articles which are to be highly stressed for example by being subjected to high rotational speeds.
