Abstract:
It is possible by use of a disclosed cutter wheel to obtain deep vertical cracks inside brittle materials while suppressing generation of horizontal cracks. Such a cutter wheel for brittle materials comprises a disk with two side planes and an outer periphery between them, outer periphery comprising two bevel portions and a ridge portion between them. The ridge portion comprises a plurality of peaks aligned along a circumferential line. For example, the ridge portion comprises a straight line connecting two adjacent peaks in the plurality of peaks. Alternatively, the ridge portion comprises a depression between two adjacent peaks in the plurality of peaks, and the depth of the depression is deeper than the straight line connecting between the two adjacent peaks. Preferably, the peaks are arranged at an equal distance between them.
Abstract:
A damage-free score is initiated in a moving ribbon of glass by projecting grit material toward the surface of the ribbon in a controlled manner to create a selected zone of surface damage thereon. The selected zone of surface damage is then advanced under a scoring wheel sized, shaped, and loaded to generate the damage-free score upon encountering an appropriate zone of surface damage.
Abstract:
Pieces of flat glass are cut to desired size without the necessity of grinding to size and polishing. Edges of the piece are cut in accordance with a procedure involving the use of a large-diameter scoring wheel at a greater-than-usual applied pressure, to produce a subsurface crack that is substantially free of serrations, followed by the application of a bending moment about the crack to propagate a fracture in the piece of glass. Light seaming of the top and bottom portions of the edges completes the preparation of these edges.
Abstract:
An improved wheel for scoring glass having dual scoring edges spaced in close proximity and a pair of sloping faces intersecting at an angle of 120*. A process of producing a score in a glass sheet by directing the fissure pressure from a multipoint pressure source and focusing the pressure so as to reinforce the pressure action in a preselected direction.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for producing a composite pane having a functional coating are presented. The functional coating is applied to part of a surface of a base pane, and a first pane is cut out from the base pane while introducing a frame-shaped peripheral coating-free region into the functional coating having an inner region that is not adjacent a side edge of the first pane. The surface of the first pane with the functional coating is then bonded via a thermoplastic intermediate layer to a surface of a second pane.
