Abstract:
A journal bearing provides lubrication to planetary gears during windmilling operation of a fan section. A primary oil pump provides oil from an oil supply during driven operation of the fan and a secondary oil pump driven by a generator provides oil during windmilling operation of the fan. The generator acts as a dynamic brake when the aircraft is grounded to prevent windmilling. A switch selects between the primary and secondary oil pump and controls the brake application.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for, in a gas turbine engine, braking a turbine comprising a rotor driving a shaft capable of rotating with respect to a stator in the event of said shaft breaking. The device is one which comprises a first braking member (110) provided with at least one abrasive element (110A) and a second braking member (120) comprising a ring-shaped element (120A) made of a material capable of being eroded by the abrasive element (110A), the two braking members being secured one of them to the rotor and the other to the stator and coming into contact with one another through axial displacement of the rotor once the shaft has broken, the abrasive element (110A) of the first braking member (110) eroding the ring-shaped element (120A) of the second braking member (120).
Abstract:
A device (40) for limiting overspeed in a turbomachine in the event of breakage of the turbine shaft (24), comprising means (38, 44) of propelling a pin (42) into the path of the blades (22), these propelling means being controlled by means (36) that detect overspeed or that the turbine shaft has broken.
Abstract:
A device is provided which can serve one or more of the multiple functions of impeding rotation of a shaft de-coupled turbine rotor, selectively impeding rotation of a first spool of the engine, for example to permit a second spool to generate power for use in ground operation, and facilitating reduced aircraft ground speed.
Abstract:
A drive apparatus (10) for propelling a vehicle across a body of water is described. The apparatus (10) comprises a prime mover, for example a gas turbine engine (12), and a propelling arrangement (26) driven by the prime mover for propelling the vehicle across the body of water and thereby provide a reaction force on the prime mover. The apparatus (10) also includes a braking arrangement (42) to apply a braking force to the propelling arrangement (26).
Abstract:
A brake system for a ram air turbine (RAT) causes the RAT to slow or lock if the RAT achieves an over-speed condition with a centrifugal force operated trigger system that actuates a compression type brake pack to slow or lock the turbine hub
Abstract:
Method and arrangement for providing a gas turbine (1) having a first compressor (2), a combustion chamber (16) and a first turbine (11), the turbine being adapted to drive the compressor via a first shaft (10a, 10b). The gas turbine also has a bleed valve (12) arranged upstream of the first turbine for conducting part of a gas compressed by the compressor past it during engine braking. The invention also relates to a method for engine-braking a gas turbine.
Abstract:
In an open state of a valve, when a valve outside sleeve is rotated in the rear portion of a housing, a valve inner sleeve is moved forward to close a fluid channel, thus stopping supply of compressed driving air. Simultaneously, a front end of the valve outside sleeve is moved forward while it abuts against the rear surface of a retainer. Therefore, brake rods biased by compression coil springs are also moved forward, and front surfaces of the brake rods are abutted against a brake disk to effect braking, thereby immediately stopping rotation of a rotor. The urging force applied on the brake disk is the compression force of the compression coil springs.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine is provided with a braking device for stopping the compressor drive turbine if a common shaft interconnecting the turbine and compressor rotors breaks, the braking device including a conical ring carried by the turbine rotor at its downstream end and a structural member of a generally conical shape carried by the upstream end of the turbine exhaust casing such that the ring will frictionally interlock with the structural member if the shaft breaks.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine of the two shaft free turbine type has a first gasifier turbine for driving a compressor to supply air to a combustor for combustion with fuel to produce motive fluid for driving the compressor turbine and a second free wheeling power turbine. An air brake with a compressor impeller directly coupled to the power turbine has an inlet and an exhaust and a close coupled iris throttle assembly for regulating the inlet flow of air into the compressor to obtain maximized power turn down ratios without aerodynamic instability.
