The engineer is qualified from the comparison of the engineer's response to the desired response to the condition. Access to the locomotive controls may be controlled using a user identification and determining the qualification level of the user. The qualification level can be updated based on the training session.

A realistic driving toy which includes a vehicle driven by a magnet which moves along the vector sum of a pair of moving rods, the rods being movable normal to each other in a plane by means of motors and linking elements. The motors are controlled by a series of contacts which communicate with a printed circuit disc whereby rotation of a steering wheel rotates the printed circuit disc relative to the contacts to provide different combinations of motor "on-off" conditions as well as different combinations therewith of motor rotation direction conditions to provide magnet movement in eight different directions. In accordance with a second embodiment of printed circuit board, sixteen vector directions for magnet movement are provided by the addition of resistors across certain ones of the circuit paths of the printed circuit board and an alteration of the conductive paths. Provision is made for initial location of the magnet. The rods are driven by a chain, screw or belt drive.The vehicle includes a forward magnet and a pair of adjacent rearward pins for supporting the vehicle on the board to prevent a "a fishtailing" effect upon vehicle movement.

A toy vehicle is provided for use in a toy vehicle game including an endless track defining at least two parallelly extending vehicle lanes in which two or more toy vehicles are adapted to be operated. The toy vehicle includes a reversible rotary drive motor and a transmission operatively engaged between the motor and two drive wheels for rotating one or the other of the drive wheels in response to the direction of rotation of the drive motor, thereby biasing the car against one or the other of the side walls of the track to guide the vehicle along its path of travel in one or the other of the lanes. The vehicle is used on a track which includes electrical contact strips which supply power to the drive motor of the vehicles through current collectors mounted thereon. A control system permits the operators to separately and independently control current to the contact strips and also to selectively reverse the polarity of the current so that the operators can vary the speed of their associated vehicles and cause the vehicles to move from one lane to the other.
